Fleet Support Service (FSS) Booking Process

Dear Colleague,

Branches and Representatives are informed that we have been made aware that Royal Mail Fleet has introduced new procedures for Royal Mail customers that provide a national booking offering for the Fleet Support Service (Mobile Technician). The purpose of the service (as currently supplied by the Mobile Technician) is to visit all Offices in the area on a pre-determined basis over the working week, carrying out planned vehicle Inspections as well as any urgent ad-hoc or surgery style maintenance to vehicles that are supported by a PMT1.

Fleet have advised they now require Drivers to report ALL vehicle faults via a booking process as per the attached crib sheets, with the desire to ensure all work is planned in through the vehicle workshop. The CWU has provided the business with a response warning them that this approach will increase the use of on-site contract maintenance to complete un-planned repairs and as such could result in lengthy delays to deliveries being undertaken by any of our Red Fleet.

We have informed RM Fleet that we do not accept or recognise this new process for the reasons outlined above and have also advised all of our Technicians in Fleet to ignore the published crib sheets and continue to receive and repair vehicles reported to them, on site that are supported by a PMT1. Fleet has advised that they will continue to share their new process with Red Fleet stakeholders as from the 18/09/17.

Branches are therefore requested to ensure that this LTB is brought to the attention of all Driving grades as a matter of urgency and members should be advised to continue to use the existing agreed practice until discussions have taken place and an agreed way forward is circulated.
