Joint Review of WTLL (Work Time Listening & Learning) in Delivery Offices

Dear Colleagues,

As Part of the Integrated Delivery Programme, People, Engagement and Training strand, Royal Mail approached the department in order to jointly undertake a WTLL Review; this is in order to try and improve the communication between the company and our members and improve on the current overall levels of employee engagement in delivery units.

As such Royal Mail and the CWU have agreed to undertake a joint review of Work Time Listening & Learning (WTLL) in 120 delivery offices - 40 per region. (Listed at appendix 1 – chosen due to size and 2016 high and low Employee Survey results for question 5c.)

The review has been introduced to gather specific data about face-to-face communication and identify good practices and opportunities for improvement.

The review will be undertaken by an independent manager who isn’t linked to the unit, who will use a set of jointly agreed questions (which are also attached). They will ask the local manager(s) and CWU rep(s) about the WTLL process, before making observations in the unit during a WTLL session and speaking to frontline staff about the process.

The results and outputs gathered from this exercise will be collated and reviewed initially by the People, Engagement and Training strand, these will then be presented to the Integrated Delivery Programme (IDP) steering group to in order to discuss and determine next steps.

The review will start from Monday 7th November, until Friday 25th November 2016.

We believe that with the inclusion of the CWU in the future process, this could be a worthwhile exercise for the union as a whole and could also provide an opportunity that will allow the CWU to more meaningfully participate in the WTLL process in future.

In addition the agreed outputs will feed in to the overall joint review exercise being undertaken on Employee Communication and Engagement Processes as outlined in the national agenda for growth agreement.

I may be a grammar pedant,however, standards, are standards ,albeit low in this company's case.,but does anyone ever proof read the stuff they send out? For example the form for evaluating WTLL, ,states "How many was in the session". Dear oh dear.

are the staff being sent these forms or just dims and reps at the offices mentioned on the list ?

snap , we haven't had one for at least 12 mth

, the dims are to bothered about trying to chase people out the door to either do the collapse or scared shitless that people will cut off , but we aren't an office on there list , hmm , lol

We haven't had a proper WTLL session in years.
If figures drop too badly there's the odd daily huddle - maybe had about 4 in the last 6 months. Or if the DOm has somehting important to relay - ie don't forget your sun hats or suchlike.

No surprise to see not a single office in my area is in this review.

Just think about all those 30mins x number of employees that managers are saving through not giving WTLL - in plain English this is a failure
of duty surely (safety topics not briefed etc.)?
Then it makes their O/T budgets look better - don't managers get a bonus for efficiency savings but in reality we're letting them get away it?

Perhaps a case for highlighting to Moya if we're not getting these compulsory WTLL sessions?

I'm not saying we should have a WTLL every week but I've only had about 6 in the 18 months I've been in. (Some might say that's six too many

)

Managers only thought is how quickly they can get staff out the door every morning.
Majority of staff's only thought is how quickly they can get out the door every morning.

So nobody's bothered about how much O/T is saved or management bonus etc.

As for telling Moyra - don;t make me laugh.
tried that over various things over the past few years.
Same answer every time - would you like the details forwarded to the area management team? - Not really as it's them i'm complaining about - they'll just sweep it under the carpet.
Is there anyone else i can complain to at a higher level - No they say. - complete waste of time.
