Further to LTBs 005/16 dated 4th January 2016 and 139/16 dated 7th March 2016 issued by the Outdoor Department regarding the above; we have continued to receive information and queries from ADRs and other CWU representatives concerning potential SPDO closures/ relocations.

Branches and CWU representatives are reminded that in the previous LTBs mentioned above you were advised that any information or queries regarding the potential closure or relocation of SPDOs should be immediately directed to Mike Newport who has been appointed by the Outdoor department to interface with Royal Mail nationally on this specific subject.

For ease of reference Mike’s contact details are as follows; email; mike.newport@cwuessex.org Mobile; 07884 454547.Mike can also make himself available to visit Branches and Divisional Committee meetings to provide an update and more insight for CWU representatives if this is required.

It is important that Branches inform Mike of all instances of potential SPDO closures, relocations or mergers without delay. It is important that this takes place consistently to ensure that the department remains up to date and informed about the ongoing impact on our SPDO sites, as a consequence of the Mailwork being relocated and of course the impact/movement of our members.

Additionally, it would appear that in some areas Royal Mail locally are not involving ASRs or local Safety Reps in discussions/negotiations regarding potential closures/relocations. This is not acceptable and it is imperative that our H&S representatives are fully involved in order to ensure the H&S and wellbeing of our members in such circumstances.

We are therefore asking all ADRs to ensure that ASRs are involved in all discussions and meetings relating to potential SPDO closures/relocations and that this position is emphasised to Royal Mail where approaches are made on any SPDO closures/relocations.
