Draft Joint Comms for Attendance Procedure

A key objective of the Business Transformation Agreement is to improve employee relations. Royal Mail and CWU are working together to review HR procedures, starting with the Attendance Procedure.

Discussions have been positive and constructive, detailed work is now commencing to produce an agreement which:

• Treats all employees with dignity and respect
• Moves away from an approach seen as adversarial with an emphasis on warnings to one which is intended to be genuinely supportive
• Emphasises early supportive action to help avoid absence becoming long term

Royal Mail and CWU believe that establishing a sensible and people focused approach to sick absence is a key part of improving working relations and we are all determined to bring discussions to a conclusion as quickly as possible. Meetings will be taking place over the coming weeks to achieve this. We will communicate progress at the appropriate time as discussions progress.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

 Same old tat we've had for years! Dignity and respect? I suspect this L.T.B. has been rushed out in response to the rumblings on this board about attendance proceedures etc, and will come to nought!

Got a good mind to email Ray Ellis to ask him if I'm going to get sacked when I go back to work next week, after all my injury was due to a AOD, can't see my DOM keeping me on.

Emphasises early supportive action to help avoid absence becoming long term
Sorry but if my doctor or specialist says I have a long term condition I expect my union to support my right to be off, NOT to be bullied back to work before my time by Atossers or managers with the Junior Encyclopedia of Medicine as a reference point.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Changing the attendance procedure is pointless without also changing mindset of the managers who abuse it.
"managers discretion" and "individual circumstances" have to mean more than what mood your in and whether they are one of your favourites.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
