LTB 1064/09 - CWU HQ Budget Process 2010

No. LTB 1064/09
Ref: TK/lm
Date: 1 December 2009

To: The Branch Secretary

Dear Colleagues

CWU HQ Budget Process 2010

The NEC on the 12th November 2009 discussed and agreed a number of items regarding the above. In particular attention was paid to structuring the finances of the CWU in such a way as we continue to represent our members into the foreseeable future.

The NEC determined that it would be in everyone's interest if we shared with Branches the decisions taken by the NEC in this regard.

The first decision was that the NEC would set up a Budget Scrutinee Committee that would examine, in detail, national HQ spend with a view to making high level recommendations regarding the long term financial structure of the CWU to the NEC in February 2010. This would examine spend both inside and outside of CWU HQ. The intention is to allow the SDGS to provide the NEC with documentation and importantly, recommendations that would allow the NEC to make informed decisions in line with the timescale above.

The NEC further agreed that the SDGS would examine all CWU assets with a view to providing recommendations on their current and future use in order to maximise the benefit to the CWU through either retention or sale.

Finally, but significantly the NEC agreed to cease all entitlement to honoraria which comes from the General Fund from 1st January 2010. Obviously this is a significant move on the part of the NEC as amongst others they themselves are directly affected by this decision. It should be noted that this decision will save the not insignificant sum of approximately £110,000 per year from HQ spend.

As further decisions are taken and as the need to engage directly with Branches arises, further correspondence and information will be provided to Branches.

I wonder if this is a realistic figure or a conservative one.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.

£110,000 probably spent at Greggs by RMC's favourite Liverpudlian
