Re: LTB:National Dispute Official Update
A deal will be on the table on Wednesday
A strike is not going to happen!
Enjoy Christmas, because after it things are going to get whole lot tougher!!
The change in deliveries will be astronomical, Maybe then people will realise what we had and how they killed the job.
Those who have done this make me sick.
The CWU need to be more proactive with making sure people are doing the job properly, The CWU fights to protect job whilst allowing the narrow minded spoil it for every one else. Get royal mail to get clocking in machine into every delivery unit in the country NOW!!, this will stop s**t DOM's cooking the books and show the runners the door. 8 hours pay for 8 hours work! simple! All the money that is wasted on the idiots who run around, could put a couple of extra £ per hour on our rate! You selfish mindless Tw@TS, I'M ANGRY!!!
. I understand about incentives and it's needs to be financial or time reward, but royal mail want to give you neither, so you try and take it through the back door and we end up in this s**t of a mess! WAKE UP PEOPLE OR IS IT TO LATE??

But it is too late! A whole load of posties in delivery will never change - INSTITUTIONALISED!
Colleagues that come in early and still go over even says that they cannot be bothered to claim the overan OT - says it is too much hassle for about £7. Working for nothing - if only 6000 out of 90,000+ do that everyday; then RM will soon make their pay rise money back - in no time.

Re: LTB:National Dispute Official Update
Very true. I worked in an office where the majority came in early and didn't claim o/t. Some were selfish, some stupid and some too scared to swim against the tide. I didn't want to play that game and so was inevitably bullied by the dom. It's these offices the union need to target. I agree clocking in machines should be brought in but I can't see it happening. Yes, RM won't want it as they will have to start paying for all the free labour and too many members are against it as the runners will lose out when finishing early.chrisj wrote:whatamess!! wrote:

Re: LTB:National Dispute Official Update
It's not just runners that go in early, and runners very rarely work over.
There are people in my office who admit they go in early and work over without claiming because they know they are slow (they are) and they don't want the hassle of being tested etc. it's nothing to do with working properly, they're just slow.
What would you say to them? They shouldn't usually be going over if working at a reasonable rate, they're doing 8 hours work but it's taking them longer and they know it.
Are they in the wrong, should they say they're cutting off or claiming and take the hassle that goes with it because both they and the managers know why they're always over?
There are many different situations within RM, and many people are worried about being performance tested or hassled so are happy and willing to just go in early and get the job done in their own time.
I'm not saying it's right, but to claim everyone who goes in early or works over is costing jobs is untrue.

In my view, the runner is at least working the required hours or even less but the inefficiency of some is being exploited by managers and RM.
So are we saying that it is OK for people to be inefficient and continue to be paid the same as others? That is the Mail Centre model and that is why most in the MC are happy as larry - they get a huge pay rise, plenty of schedules attendance and OT and as much break as some of them want. The other thing is that most MCs are big and it is easy to be union-active and be mobilised.
I don't know how I feel about inefficient posties - a difficult one but my previous employments has often be meritorious: if you are not good enough, you will be found out and got rid. And you cannot get away with coming in early to make up for your inefficiencies - its about contracted times.

Re: LTB:National Dispute Official Update
That is the problem! A sorter gets paid the same as a delivery person.
A pay rise for MC staff is always going to be of higher worth that a delivery person. To start with, you get longer breaks and do not have to work as hard and you only work to your time with plenty of OT and scheduled attendance like I stressed above.
Having said that, I was only referring to the same nominal pay rise that we are all going to get. If you do not have the same issues as we have then having a pay rise should suffice for you to vote the agreement in.
Before you start to defending yourself, I have worked in Mail Centres and MDEC. I know how it works and at Christmas most of you folks are laughing because you have the larkeys from Angard doing even more work than the usual staff.
Even the schedule attendance sometimes does not involve work - and even longer breaks. Schedules attendance in delivery is always a job to do - like collection.

Re: LTB:National Dispute Official Update
Here we go again. Some folks are slower than others so they are classed as outcasts and inefficient. Some people who work very quickly are inefficient because they make mistakes cut corners and leave their mess for someone else to clear up on another day. This job should never be about speed because there are too many anomalies in the human physique, age, mental ability and general well being on the day, together with distractions on the route and the make up of each individual route and the differing volumes and make up of mail carried. The only way to get around this is to provide a decent weekly/monthly salary and you complete your walk each day. If the runners want to come in early and rush around that is up to them. Each person works at his/her own pace knowing that the work will be completed without the prospect of a manager breathing down their neck pushing them on. Yes I know there will be plenty that are against a salary and I know there will be many who have opposite views, but the facts are the existing system is not working, is sh.t and encourages the bullying and harassment culture there is at the moment.

Not so sure about demanding clocking in and out, opens up a can of worms. We have plenty of days when we finish early, especially in summer and on Tuesdays. Of course i could work in the only delivery office in Britain where this happens but somehow i doubt it. The old adage, be careful what you wish for, springs to mind.

It only opens up a can of worms for the most senior members & the office runners, the rest of us work our hours & then somebunkerland wrote:Not so sure about demanding clocking in and out, opens up a can of worms. so having worked in a mc yourself do you not agree that most staff don't just sit on their bums and sort mail have you ever worked in a w;house in a mc bag split I can tell you it isn,t much fun a bit like doing delivery walking around in circles all day.chrisj wrote:That is the problem!
