Did the big drop in trays (I'm assuming you're referring to your sequenced) coincide with when the GDPR regs kicked in?daveyeff wrote:not long ago just about every duty in our office was getting 3 trays each day(some were getting 4) except tuesdays which was 1 and a half. now, we are getting 1 to 1 and a half per day. and tuesdays about 3 quarters full. tuesday gone i had 235 letters in me tray. the only reason i had plenty of work was cos the duty hadn't went out since the previous thursday. our nearest neighbouring offices are exactly the same. yes i definitely think they've dropped massively. packets, as you say though are through the roof. i used to be the first to shout out they were liars and their figures were shite. but now, im afraid its a reality.

I get three quarters up to a full a tray on the first wagon and a small bundle in an elastic band, sometimes half a tray for my second bundle at the moment...the letter volumes have dropped dramatically at the moment but that is to be expected due to so many companies in lockdown/furlough. The UK economy is in stasis at the moment, we will have to wait to see just what happens when we emerge from these restrictions. My guess is many UK companies will be eager to recapture all the lost business as quickly as possible because once a customer is lost they are much harder to win back later. It is better to try and retain your old customer base so higher marketing budgets will probably be the norm.

So the basic maths say if letters have been dropping at 10% per annum after 10 years there are no letters left to deliver as 10 x 10 = 100%.ebbzie wrote: ..... they have been dropping 10% a year , so you do the maths
But:
If year 1 = 2000
year 2 = 1800
year 3 = 1620
year 4 = 1458
year 5 = 1312
year 6 = 1181
year 7 = 1063
year 8 = 957
year 9 = 861
year 10 = 775.
Now given that nobody has said they have been dropping at 10%/year but 5%, then by year 10 you would be delivering about 1500 letters as opposed to 2 000. If your duty span has increased by 25% over those 10 years you would be delivering the same number of letters as 10 years ago. Therefore no drop in letters would be discernible to the walking postman but the drop in traffic would still exist.

I'd say in my office letters and flats are now pretty much back up to average summer levels, certainly far more than the first 2-3 of weeks of lockdown.
Oh, and still Christmas volumes of parcels and pkts.

Have they not given a date for when this payment will be made or do we just keep an eye on our wage slips and hope for the best .

But the only reason you and I have been able to work through without going sick is because other people have gone sick when they potentially had the virus.endofdays1982 wrote:Well said Union a recognition payment for ones that have worked through without going off sick, to right, only fair, well played union!
If they had come in spreading their (possibly fatal) germs you might not have got the payment. And I might be dead.
Everyone had to play their part. We are all in this together.

While that is true it also has to said lots of posties took the opportunity to take a couple of weeks off for no real reason other than they could . That’s certainly what happened in my office yet none of them tested positive for it .clashcityrocker wrote:But the only reason you and I have been able to work through without going sick is because other people have gone sick when they potentially had the virus.endofdays1982 wrote:Well said Union a recognition payment for ones that have worked through without going off sick, to right, only fair, well played union!

The very first WTL i had in 2005 was a video of Allan Leighton (remember him) telling us letters would decline 10% per year.clashcityrocker wrote:Show me where anyone has said they have been dropping by 10% each year.ebbzie wrote: well in the 20 years i ve been here they have been dropping 10% a year , so you do the maths you sarcastic pr**k
The figure usually quoted for the past few years is 5/6%.
A drop of 5% for 5 years does not equate to a 25% drop.
It certainly doesn't equate to your 10 letters/walk.
