Masks for indoor work

Post by bucks123 »

We have a couple of people who wear masks for indoor work. DOM announced we are to have a vote next week on whether we should all wear them in our office.

Personally I am happy to wear one if asked. I guess with the autumn/winter months upon is the risk is only going to increase and, despite best efforts, social distancing is very difficult to manage all the time.

What's the situation in other offices?

At ours you wear the when moving round the office or doing IPS but not when you are at your frame or on DBF.

Once all the Xmas casuals start, chances are they'll then be mandatory in all MCs at all times as social distancing will become impossible anywhere in a MC at that point once there are inward and outward set-ups in place

Dimensions has the face riot shields on for your office to order, so maybe we will use them?

Without going into if masks should or should not be worn inside surely Royal Mail official policy would override any vote in an individual office. If your office voted they should be worn but several people refused to wear them how could they be forced to do it if it’s not official Royal Mail policy?

I think it boils down to individuals attitude to Risk. We don't wear masks indoors, but it's a modern unit and we've got a bit of space.

However it might be a good idea with some individuals who have STILL NOT got the Social Distancing mesage, and insist on crowding you when getting their mail & packets. :arrrghhh I've got to the stage were I just drop everything and walk away until they're finished.... it's just not worth arguing with these morons. :cuppa

It's not a matter for an office vote.
It's either individual choice, company policy or legally mandated.

The fact that it's going to a vote sounds like there are people who won't wear one for 'freedom of choice' reasons.
A vote shouldn't be dictating policy on this.

POSTMAN wrote:Will Royal Mail be providing face masks?

Where we have identified specific roles for whom observing the 2m physical distancing is at times difficult, masks are being provided. However, in those cases the 2m physical distancing must be observed when possible and hand hygiene rules, including not touching the mouth, nose and eyes or before eating must continue to be observed.

Where masks have been identified as not required, they remain available for those employees who wish to use them from their manager.

Face coverings are mandatory across the UK in shops, this includes employees working in our customer service points and using public transport. This includes when going into Post Offices. Managers should ensure their teams are aware of the mandatory guidance when delivering or collecting mail.

Full face mask and face covering guidance is available here

What’s the impact of the face covering legislation?

It is mandatory to wear a face covering when entering shops throughout the UK. This includes when going into Post Offices. Shop workers must also wear a face covering including those that work in customer service points.

Managers should ensure their teams are aware of the mandatory guidance when delivering or collecting mail. Face coverings are also required across the UK when using public transport.

Customer Service Points (CSPs) are classified as shops for the purposes of this guidance and therefore all employees working in and customers using these facilities will need to wear a face mask/covering. Posters to display this requirement are available on the SHE Coronavirus Document Library -Posters

It is now mandatory for employees who work in CSPs to wear a face covering, Face masks remain available through line managers. You can ensure you always have good stock of face masks and other protective equipment available by keeping your Additional Supplies Register (ASR) app up to date.

The law provides discretion to people who have a health condition, a disability and other groups. These will not always be visible, so staff should continue to serve all who enter CSPs, including those not wearing face coverings.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Respiratory droplets carrying infectious pathogens can transmit infection ... This can be in the form of sneezing, coughing or speaking.

That's why there's a 2 meter rule around the UK and mask's are nearly mandatory everywhere

Anything can be a pathogen for people with week immune systems like Flu or a common cold or coronavirus did we ruin our economy for a virus and to ware masks for the rest of our lives because of putting off the inevitable we cannot put the genie back in the bottle.
