Covid - Three day absence?

Post by Hicksville »

Is there any updated official guidelines regarding Covid ie pdf or notice? I can’t seem to find one.

Tested positive for Covid on Monday morning so contacted my manager.
She said RM policy is now three days absence then back to work unless you are still feeling unwell.
My day off is Thursday anyway so I wouldn’t be back until Friday (I feel better this time compared to the first time I had Covid)
Therefore my question really is, is it three days or not?
Thanks

Dont be taken in by the bullshit..They are wrong!
Copied from NHS website.

What to do if you've tested positive for COVID-19
If you have COVID-19, you can pass on the virus to other people for up to 10 days from when your infection starts. Many people will no longer be infectious to others after 5 days.

You should:

try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days
avoiding meeting people at higher risk from COVID-19 for 10 days, especially if their immune system means they’re at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, even if they’ve had a COVID-19 vaccine

Thanks, I saw that a while ago when the NHS first announced it, with my boss mentioning three days I just wondered if anything had changed since and I had missed something.
I might put her on the spot and ask for an official RM document stating three days 😉

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Hi, sorry I didn’t see your message, I had the answer to my question and haven’t logged very much since.
I actually only noticed the red message icon today.
Thank you for asking though 👍🏻

I had Covid 2 weeks ago and told manager, he then phoned me same day despite me saying I felt quite unwell and says he will expect me in tomorrow unless I’m really unwell as we can now work with Covid! I had whole week off as I felt to Ill to go in but every day he kept saying the same about coming in, the lack of caring is terrible all they care about is covering walks, so I contacted Doctor who said take as long as you need and signed me off for another week!

Everybody's immunity is different and there are many strains of Covid circulating and evolving.
Don't rush back just because some unsympathetic COM is badgering you to do so.

Get well soon.

No, not 2 days before strikes, see this, they are making it up as they go along...

viewtopic.php?f=87&t=106210
2.6.2. Sick absence that is advised on the day (or the first day) of industrial action

Whether absence will be regarded as sickness absence will depend on the exact timing of the notification by the employee.
When notification is received before the day of the industrial action in the office, employees will be treated as being absent from work due to sickness absence.
When notification is received on the day of the industrial action the employee will be regarded as taking part in the industrial action and be reported as such. Managers have discretion in exceptional circumstances (e.g. hospitalisation or sudden incapacity).

You could try bluffing your Manager, tell him you've got Covid but you'll be coming into work ..... and if you infect half the office, and they go down with Covid, you'll tell everyone it was his fault for bullying you back into work. :hmmmm

If all the Strike Breakers went down with Covid I'm sure the Daily Bile's front page would read, "CWU employ Biological Warfare against Strike Breakers"! :cuppa

The unions position is to report any sick pay deductions to your branch and to apply to acas for early concilliation
