Test positive
I have been tested positive since yesterday and I am off work from Tuesday , Monday was my rest day.
I informed my manager about the results and I have been told that if I am away from my job more than seven days I have to provide a not to fit to work note from my GP.
Because the company policy has changed
Searching online Nhs it says to provide instead an isolation note which I have already provide

Re: Test positive
That’s strange. I’ve been off from last Tuesday until yesterday also tested positive and therefore isolating. Asked the boss about me providing the isolation note provided by nhs and got told that it’s not necessary and they aren’t even allowed to ask for one. RM’s nothing if not inconsistent!

Re: Test positive
Hi all, hope we’re ok?
I’ve come home from work sneezing, runny nose and drowsy thinking it’s just a common cold and did a LFT and it came up positive almost instantly.
The other day it was negative so I thought all was well?
I work in the priority services enclosure and am concerned about my fellow colleagues now.
I’ve had Covid before and it was horrid!! Nothing like this, this is just an ache, runny nose slight cough (normal cold symptoms)
I’m on annual leave until Thursday and am back Friday night.
If I do another test on Friday there is no way I want to put my colleagues at risk, any help?
Cheers

Re: Test positive
My own standards now are to stay at home and phone in sick with covid until i have a couple of negative tests under my belt. If you can give colleagues a heads up via text or WhatsApp then do so however…Boysie79 wrote: ↑26 Mar 2022, 11:02Hi all, hope we’re ok?

The onus is on the Bookroom or your manager to inform colleagues of any health risks….they won’t, but it’s their responsibility not yours.

Re: Test positive
Thank you both for your advice, and I send my apologies for the late reply I have been feeling really rough.
I’ve also informed some friends too and I’m confident the message will be passed on to other colleagues.
Best wishes to everyone and most importantly stay safe all

Re: Test positive
Hi
Read your posts with interest. I am in exactly the same boat and same symptoms. Tested positive last Wednesday and still same today. I have been off since and don’t feel comfortable sharing van, workspace etc
I was told policy is that you don’t need 2 negatives and can go into work, which is against public health guidance. Is this local or across the board?

We’ve also confirmed that there is an expectation that employees will continue to follow the government guidelines, which state that individuals who test positive for Covid should self-isolate for at least 5 days. For clarity though, an individual is not prevented from attending for work. A responsible employee should follow the government guidelines and self-isolate, but they don’t have to do so.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Test positive
The business has now obviously moved the goalposts as far as coronavirus and staff sick absence records are concerned.
However in Scotland it is still mandatory to self isolate following a positive test yet members of staff will still have these absences added to their record despite the fact that the business policy in Scotland remains..The business has now updated its position with regards to the discounting of Covid absences. Covid absence is now not automatically discounted from the attendance procedure. It’s at the discretion of the unit manager as to whether or not they feel that an attendance review is warranted.
A potential discriminatory minefield I suspect. A member of staff in Scotland is now more likely to end up dismissed simply for following the rules. The current business policy is that employees should follow the advice outlined at: https://www.nhsinform.scot/isolation This states that, for positive cases, you should isolate for up to 10 days.

Re: Test positive
It all comes down to if someone is on a stage. If they're on a stage 2 already and Covid self-isolation would push them onto a stage 3 then they're almost certainly going to go in. If RM want to avoid that, then they need to go back to self-isolating not counting towards a stage

Re: Test positive
If a person has tested positive for Covid and is feeling unwell there's no way on earth that the absence should be 'counted in' and the employee be punished for it. Attending work in those circumstances is still down to the judgement of the employee. People are still dying. Most likely the employee would have contracted Covid due to the amount of staff who are now deciding that it's fine to attend work while contagious.exetererica wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 20:38Even if someone has a clear sick record, this stupidity will push them, unnecessarily, on to stage 1.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑29 Mar 2022, 19:45It all comes down to if someone is on a stage. I honestly can't see how doing the right thing and following guidelines should put one's job into jeopardy.
Where is the union on this?![]()
Has anyone been issued with a stage warning because of this?

Re: Test positive
Ive been informed that i've triggered a stage warning for being off with covid. Do i have to accept this?
I have supplied my government issued isolation note for the 10days (i was testing positive right up to then) And then was given a "not fit for work" note from my GP as i was still suffering with the exhaustion (I also have asthma). So i took 14days off. This is the first time in 15years that i have triggered this and im quite annoyed, as if i had caught it 3 weeks earlier it wouldnt be an issue.
Working in Scotland, the government advice was to isolate for 10days unless you get 2 negative tests after days 6&7, so why did RMs policy only reflect the changes to the isolation rules in England?!
