Re: Covid positive
You are not now legally obliged to isolate but why would you willingly go into work and spread the virus?
This Government decision is bizarre to say the least.
Contact your Line Manager and let him/her decide. That way they should not mark your sick record.

Re: Covid positive
It’s up to you. If you are ill and unable to work then you go off sick. If you feel able to work (as you might with the flu for example) then go to work. It’s your decision, you shouldn’t need anyone to tell you.

Re: Covid positive
Fairly sure it was mentioned in another thread that it now counts as normal sick (and so subject to stage warnings)chickenwittle wrote: ↑13 Mar 2022, 21:34I think he knows that , he’s asking does it still get discounted as normal sick and still come under Covid sick .

Re: Covid positive
I've had Covid this week. I am still actually pretty ill from it, but given the conditions and everything at the sorting offices and the fact we go round to so many people's houses I'd really recommend not going in. It's no longer a legal requirement but it's still the recommendation to avoid people for 5 days - it's all still there on the gov websites. My manager tried to get me to come in while positive - aside from actually being really ill there's no way I would risk spreading it around the office.

Re: Covid positive
I rang them to ask what I need to do, I said im willing to come in as I feel fine, Manager said people in the office wouldn't appreciate me coming back as they have relatives who are at risk (fair enough)
He then said it will go down as a normal sick and ill be on a stage warning.
It doesn't seem right that ill be on a stage warning.

Re: Covid positive
Well then you should have gone in , you said you felt fine and it’s not your problem how work colleagues feel about it . I would have gone in or insisted on it not being counted as normal sick leave.Rage24 wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 09:34I rang them to ask what I need to do, I said im willing to come in as I feel fine, Manager said people in the office wouldn't appreciate me coming back as they have relatives who are at risk (fair enough)

Re: Covid positive
We’ve also confirmed that there is an expectation that employees will continue to follow the government guidelines, which state that individuals who test positive for Covid should self-isolate for at least 5 days. For clarity though, an individual is not prevented from attending for work. A responsible employee should follow the government guidelines and self-isolate, but they don’t have to do so.
A manager does not have to count such absences towards an attendance review, so my advice would be that employees who remain absent in order to protect the health of their colleagues continue to raise this as mitigation as part of the attendance procedure. Whether or not to award the attendance review is at the discretion of the manager, and it will depend on a number of factors – including (but not limited to) the amount of Covid related absence that the employee has already taken over the last two years and whether or not this is below or above the norm.
Kind Regards.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Covid positive
Better stock up on those Covid kits because after April 1st they won't be FREE anymore to the general public unless you work for the NHS, care work or if you are in a vulnerable group showing symptoms
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Covid positive
I think this is a very relevant subject. As always RM is being driven by PROFIT. I had this discussion with the DOM recenetly and he basically said, "If you're not suffering from any physical health issues (i.e exhaustion, coughing, shaking etc) then you should just turn up for work as usual. Even if you proved positive for Covid".
I believe the same attitude is taken by Government & Big Business because of course they're also driven by PROFIT, we know how seriously they treated the Covid Crisis because of their appaling behaviour. I realise we have to have some kind of return to normality but I take the view that if I've tested positive for Covid I will not be going into work. As mentioned that is the Responsible Attitude and if RM don't like it, because we're short of staff, then tough shite. They should be recruiting the correct ammount of Temporary cover to help them out, and they should be taking the Responsible Attitude as well.
