Isolating with Covid do I have to have negative test before returning

Post by d.h.o.s.g.r.f »

Hi tested positive for Covid on Friday morning,
Phoned work and was told to isolate for 5 days which would take me to Wednesday after which I would need to provide two negative tests before returning to work which would be Friday,
I have just received a text from my line manager asking if I would be back at work Thursday,
I told him that I would need to have two negative tests before returning the first of which would be Thursday,
He replied that you do not need to provide negative tests now restrictions have ended so if well enough come back to work Thursday,
I told him this isn't what I was told Friday and would it be ok to check with union first,
He replied check away as this has come from royal mail's communications.
I know that restrictions in law have now changed but it does seem a bit irresponsible going back to work without testing negative
By the way on my NHS Covid app it says vto isolate till 7th march  .

Your manager is right-ish, my message will self destruct after you have read it!

'Living With Covid' Government Announcement
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thanks for the reply,
The living with Covid statement really doesn't help much and probably just muddys the water,
Such as isolate for at least five days, (according to manager don't test after five days so come back to work on sixth day)
You have a personal responsibility to protect yourself and others by staying at home ( but not after five days),
Between now and 1 April colleagues should continue to order tests and test themselves where appropriate (but not after five days)
Spent best part of today on phone with union and various departments and managers trying to get an answer after still having a positive test,
Apparently it was down to me whether I came back to work even though I'd told them I was still positive,
I didn't agree and thought it was a decision for Royal mail to make as I wasn't saying I was unfit to work just still positive with minor symptoms.
Finally got some common sense in the end and to go with the NHS guidance which the above statement conveniently misses out,
Been told to isolate for 10 day's but can return if I have two negative tests after 5 days which is what I was originally told when I first tested positive.
Hope this helps somebody who tests positive before 1 April

The crux of it now is, it's down to the individual with what they do.
Peeps come in with a cold-Peeps come in with Covid.
Not saying it's right-Morally right-It is what it unfortunately is.

It'll be down to if it'll put someone on a stage. Who's going to bother self-isolating if it'll put them on a stage?

I would.
If the climate was a bank, they would already have saved it.

Glad you had the common sense to stay at home and self isolate.

I tested positive the other day. When I called my boss I was given the option to go sick without pay (I've not completed 12 months as a postie yet) if I wasn't well enough or to come to work with covid and delivery to customers. As I had relatively mild symptoms (heavy cold) I carried on working, doing my best to keep my distance from colleagues and customers on my round.

Was this fair on my colleagues? Probably not! Is it fair to deliver to customers knowing I have covid? Probably not! The alternative for me was to go unpaid until I test negative and have an absence on my record.

Meanwhile, cases rates are now doubling roughly every fortnight.
Yes, there’s a new kid on the block, a sub variant of Omicron called Deltacron.

No mask wearing in delivery offices ,Covid positive people told to attend work.

and remember From 1 April: lateral flow tests (LFTs) will no longer be free, except for the over-75s and over-12s with weakened immune systems - everyone else will have to buy them from pharmacist or other retailers

Wecolme to Boris’s Herd immunity plan!

God help us.

AFAIK absolutely everyone in China wears a mask at all times when out in public, just look at how much difference they make now. Some areas of China have gone back into full lock down
