Sick note

Post by Bridgeman »

Having had a positive covid result I isolated until I had two negative LFT results. I returned to work after nine days. I've been told that I must provide a sick note for the last two days of my isolation. Could someone tell me the rules on this Im not too sure a doctor will provide a sick note retrospectively as I had no dealings with him while isolating. Anybody any thoughts on this?

Don’t stress ,your Manager is just being an arse.
Phone your GP they will backdate and provide a sick note for the two days.

A self cert should do the trick, if I remember right they cover you for the 1st 28 days of sickness now, unless its changed

Are covid related absences not automatically covered any more?

Absences of seven days or less: These should be self-certified

I seen on RM site that an NHS covid self isolation form is available if your self isolation lasts over 7 days. So gonna try that. :

Get an NHS isolation note

Use this service if you need a note for your employer to prove you're self-isolating because of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Thank you for your enquiry.

We wouldn’t expect someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and who returns to work within ten days (or less), to provide a sick note from their GP. They are able to provide an isolation note from the NHS.

If you require any further advice, please come back to us.

Kind Regards,

When you go on the NHS site about fit notes it actually says do not contact your GP for a fit note for Covid 19 instead click on the Isolation note form . I did this, simple form to fill in which seems to cover you 10 days at a time. Print out a copy for yourself and one to send to manager. The GP's i suspect are too busy to deal with this at the moment themselves.

It's a little more complicated than that after day 6 to do with testing positive or negative but the union is trying to get a joined up answer from the business.

Basically the position RM appear to be taking is if you test negative day 6+7 you'll be expected to return to work and if you don't you'll need a GP note after day 7.

If you continue to test positive you'll be covered until your isolation note ends.

They are of course making it up as they go along.
