Backdated Pay for All?

Post by deej1995 »

I joined RoyalMail when I was 17, and didn't really know what a Union was, but assumed it was mandatory.

I have now been with RoyalMail for 5 years, assuming for this time I have been part of the union. When I didn't receive a ballot last week I asked my rep, who informed me that I haven't been a member for the duration which I thought I had.

Does this mean I will not get the backdated pay from April 2020? I am going to join the Union when I go into work on Monday, as this has all come as a surprise to me.

Many thanks

You’ll still get the pay rise. I’ve never been a member and always get the pay rises/backdated pay.
My question to you is, if you haven’t been a member so far, why do you now feel the need? Your choice of course, as with everyone.

1. Its a collective agreement so everyone in RM employment, on the agreed date, and at the relevant grades gets it irrespective of anything.

2. Why wait till Monday :Very Happy https://www.cwu.org/join-us/join-online/

Your post is reassuring. Many people are peddling that you only get it if you were employed on the agreement date of 18th December 2020.

I don't think that is right and hope all former employees who are affected will claim the pay.

I'm afraid you didn't read the whole thread. The poster asked if he got the back pay if he wasn't in the union.
All grades get it but you only get back pay if you were still in employment on the 18th Dec. Sorry.

I think differently as I am influenced by UK employment law. You are entitled to the pay by law.

I can see why you believe the 18th comes into play - because your company told you.

It is mentioned nowhere in the agreement that I can read on here.

I can't find a different agreement.

No-on as yet can say why the 18th is important. It doesn't seem to be written anywhere.

I'm just trying to find out how you know. You are entitled to the full rate of pay payable for anytime you worked. There would have to be something to say otherwise - something other than - so and so at work said.

If I'd had a quid for everything I was told by an employee that turned out to be utter codswallop, I'd be pretty damn rich.

I need to know how you know to find out the situation. As it stands the money is payable.
