Our area union ripped our 9 day firtnights out of our office. Actively pressured part timers to vote for a one in six. That's the last subs union got off me.

I'd gladly sign up for 10 hrs days at Christmas to get 6 hrs days in summer! Atm do 10+hr days at Christmas but still 8hrs summer.

Obviously there'd be no ot payments involved, but you're right that may suit some......

With the large packets and tracked removed, next to no Christmas cards and the arse falling out of the letters market how are they going to justify 10hr days at Christmas?

There certainly will be 10hr days for the LAT drivers, and not just at Christmas! Again, I think you only have to look at what the other couriers are doing to see where RM want to take us.

The thing with these attendance patterns is that it will be totally flexible for the Royal Mail but totally inflexible and/or unworkable for us.

Say we work 6 hours a day in summer - does that mean that we will be working 6 days a week and If its 10 hours a day in winter then is that 4 days a week? Otherwise how else do they work it? Will they expect staff to still work a uniform 5 day week therefore 30 hours in summer and get paid for 38 hours and 50 hours in winter and get paid for 38 hours per week?? Most staff seem to get colds and flu in winter. Would that not put additional pressures to get cover??

Also totally inflexible and how many times do Royal Mail need to keep changing our working patterns to suit themselves?

Royal Mail seem to want everyone working a 5 day working week, its just a shame that they don't take the same approach to postal workers contracts because at present we have got staff working 20 hours, some staff on 24, others on 30 hours. Surely it would be easier if everyone was on 35 hours?
