LTB 629/19 2019 Dispute Relating to Honouring and Deploying the Four Pillars of Security and Pay Guiding Principles Agreement between the CWU and RMG - CWU Press Release

No. 629/19

29th October 2019

Dear Colleagues,

2019 DISPUTE RELATING TO HONOURING & DEPLOYING THE FOUR PILLARS OF SECURITY & PAY / GUIDING PRINCIPLES AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CWU & RMG – CWU PRESS RELEASE

Branches will be aware that the National Officers met with Royal Mail Group earlier today as part of the ongoing mediation process.

However, prior to our meeting a letter was received from the business (on 28th October at 17:20) followed by a press release this morning that we can only conclude was designed as an attempt to totally undermine the Union and therefore minimise the possibility of an agreed way forward.

In response the CWU today issued the attached press release which clarifies the Union’s position on this matter.

A special meeting of the Postal Executive will be held tomorrow morning to provide colleagues with an update and to urgently consider our response and approach to this latest development. Further updates will be circulated to Branches in due course.

In addition, I can confirm that the Facebook Live Question and Answer session will take place as scheduled at 18:00 tomorrow. Branches are asked to advertise this event and circulate the contents of this LTB as widely as possible.

Any enquiries in relation to the content of this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department.

Yours sincerely,

Terry Pullinger

Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

Press release...

Responding to a statement issued from Royal Mail earlier today, Deputy General Secretary (Postal),
Terry Pullinger said:

“Royal Mail Group’s position in this dispute is born out of dogma and raised on deceit.
Today’s press release is a total sham designed to undermine the CWU and any prospect of an
agreement.

The ‘significant step’ they refer to was actually proposed by the CWU on the 8th October 2019.

That offer was to move immediately from mediation to formal negotiations with the proposal that the
CWU would not give any notice to take industrial action for effectively six weeks, at which point we
would reflect on the genuine nature of the negotiations.

RMG rejected that offer in preference to wait for the external Mediator’s report.
They refused to meet all last week and only offered a 4 hour slot this week.

Their letter referred to in their press release was emailed late yesterday after 17.00hrs and was the
subject of a press release before we met today.

Ask yourself, is this the actions of people trying to resolve this dispute?

Equally today they have rejected significant recommendations from the external Mediator’s report
making it impossible for talks to resolve all issues.

We will consult with the CWU Executive tomorrow and determine our response.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
