It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Got absolutely roasted in the comments.
Basically nobody believes that RM aren't actively pursuing the idea of Monday - Friday letters for next year and nobody believes that Terry isn't aware of that and is playing fast and loose with the definition of "protecting" the USO.
A little more up front honesty would perhaps be a better direction to go.

but we all know this will happen and is a massive money spinner for the company and it will come so i can not see the company defending a mon - sat letter delivery , and the union will be f****d to be blunt . TRUST comes to mind ,

Honestly cant see what they would gain out of dropping Sat letters if we are still delivering small packets and parcels?

Tracked and specials. If the USO was Monday to Friday they'd concentrate on the stuff they're bothered about. You wouldn't need alot of staff in covering the tracked and specials, maybe 1 covering 6 deliveries?2yearpostie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:07Honestly cant see what they would gain out of dropping Sat letters if we are still delivering small packets and parcels?

We have plenty of letterboxable tracked packets nowadays which will only grow,it doesnt make sense to drive to say 23,35,46,74 with these type of packets so you would walk it, while your walking it you might as well take the letters as well, and lets not forget d2ds would go to 1/6 to 1/5 costing more time on letter delivery days in prep alone.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:11I don't think we would be.2yearpostie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:07Honestly cant see what they would gain out of dropping Sat letters if we are still delivering small packets and parcels?

in your neck of the woods maybe citypostie, out here in the sticks we easily cover 60 miles a day on just 1 walk.citypostie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:20Tracked and specials. Again people are making the same mistake that everything would look/be the same as it does now.
Royal Mail could easily introduce a specific Saturday/Sunday Guaranteed Tracked service. It could possibly only be available on certain sizes but the real savings are obviously indoor and network/distribution.
D2D is a non issue because they're looking for it all to go in on a Monday anyway and warm called through the week.

Mon-Fri is coming and his talk of fighting it would find very little support from those on the front line. When did Terry last work a Saturday on a regular basis?

they would gain by getting rid of all or some of the day off covers as the regulars would just work monday - friday , and the ones that are still there will just delivery specials , parcels on a saturday and that is a massive head count and saving for royal mail, and then the crumbling workers union will say it was out of our hands .2yearpostie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:07Honestly cant see what they would gain out of dropping Sat letters if we are still delivering small packets and parcels?

there biggest saving would be the delivery and outdoor work and day off cover staff , and dont have a chance of getting all d2ds in on a monday with over 1000 calls on a delivery all double slotsWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:47Again people are making the same mistake that everything would look/be the same as it does now.

You would be daft to walk it. Driving and doing both sides of the road as you go is what u should be doing.2yearpostie wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 19:21it doesnt make sense to drive to say 23,35,46,74 with these type of packets so you would walk it
