In my office I'd say letter volumes, in terms of ''business mail'' aka junk mail, has already fully recovered (and some) from the drop off we saw in the first few weeks of lockdown no.1.

Everybody doesn't need to have the vaccine to "return to normal".

In theory once you vaccinate the over 55s and clinically vulnerable you've reduced the risk of serious illness and death to a level no higher than normal flu.

Once you reach that point you run out of arguments against van sharing.

I may not be in one of the at risk or vulnerable groups but i'd still be reluctant to van share as i dont really fancy getting long covid either tbh and the long term health implications will obviously only be understood in the coming months/years.

Don't know officially, but I'd hazard a guess it'd be something along the lines of 3 to 6 months, ie to cover a particular wave of the virus.

if its like flu and mutates to a different strain there will need to be a different vaccine for it each year. flu is constantly changing and mutating so the old vaccine becomes obsolete.

Yeah I think I heard that from a scientist speaking on Five Live's Your Call on Monday or Tuesday, they think it may be an annual injection like the flu vaccine. He also said that once the DNA code for Covid 19 was established, an effective vaccine was found in a few days, it's reaching the efficacy and regulatory criteria that has taken the large period of the time, quite rightly. So a response to a mutation of the Covid 19 infection may not be as much of a hurdle to overcome as it sounds to an oaf like myself now those standards have been met. It is just tweaking the current vaccine with the knowledge now that it will carry no widespread adverse effect......fascinating listen, would recommend.....

I know of someone that went on a plane on holiday this year, yet they won't van share due to the coronavirus

Where would the postie stand in the future on possible issues of non-compliance given this??

In terms of the USO the unions policy remains we want to protect the USO 6 day service.

Here's the rub though Martin, the branches and the majority of the membership think that means the union's policy is to protect the 6 day letters delivery but we both know that isn't true.

What you really mean is that the union is prepared to settle for some kind of USO 6 day service even if that means losing 6 day letters and maybe having Tracked designated a USO product.

Who knows it might be the sensible way to go but in the meantime branches and members are going to be wasting their breath fighting for something HQ has already given up on.

Do you know what's wrong with your position Martin, it's fundamentally dishonest.

You believe if you technically on paper protect the 6 day USO by moving the goalposts that's an acceptable solution but if in the process you can't admit that that's exactly what you're aiming for you're lying to the membership.

A union is not a business, a bunch of disreputable lawyers or some sleazy political party, it should never look to tell anything other than the naked truth to its members, not look for some slippery technical get out clause.

If HQ has accepted that the 5 day letters delivery will probably go in 2022 or even earlier the members deserve to know as early as possible.
