Posties being hailed as 'heroes' is only useful propaganda to RM, not a reflection of our standing in their eyes.
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"

50mill fine for breaking competition law.
1.5mill fine for missing targets and pricing errors.
6mill golden hello for an internal appointment then payed off.
Yet the people at the lowest end of the spectrum are the problem.

I agree RTP , no way are we loosing money like that .
Hundreds of letters regularly fail in my office as just not enough staff to process it quick enough for a decent office exit time.
All this talk of 2 bundle working will make delivery harder and slower .

I’m a postie earning 25k a year but I projected I would make 50k through o/t but because of the pandemic no o/t is available.
I’m now losing £480 a week and soon I’ll be bankrupt.
That’s the logic RM are working on saying the are losing money.

The Keith Williams article is a classic case of not knowing what is happening on the shop floor.
The workload we have is astronomical and yet this is missed out from the article and this is why ALL of RM plans never work due to the detachment of reality.

Maybe the union could withdraw us from being a fourth or fifth emergency service if we can’t strike then
What a total farce that is ,people are losing money left right and centre while putting their health and even lives on the line
There’s a total disregard for our safety ,people who have been in contact with others with virus told to come to work as soon as they get a negative, yet it can take days to show you have it !
Sorters all bunged In together .if you’ve to quarantine you lose money ,if you shielded you lost all your carry over leave to even get a chance of government furlough money
How is any of that fair .vulnerable people using different vans every day .
No one is allowed to know if anyone had the virus ,yet we are expected to work in a place with sometimes hundreds and no mask wearing enforced ,even the volunteer vansharing again unbelievable negligence !
the list is endless
Show some leadership and tell them we aren’t prepared to do this anymore in these conditions
Forget about cosying up with management ,secret deals and what the public think of us striking ,get us safe first .we pay yous enough for that !

So it looks like we need to prepare ourselves for redundancies but as already mentioned there will be no shortage of eager volunteers. The important thing is will the terms be the same as currently offered or closer to basic statutory redundancy pay?

Loads on fixed term contracts and a turnover of staff of many thousands per year due to retirement and resignations, could mean big payouts at a minimum.Deadly wrote:So it looks like we need to prepare ourselves for redundancies but as already mentioned there will be no shortage of eager volunteers. Possibly but Royal Mail prefer employees on fixed term contracts over the oldies as they are cheaper to employ.deltaforce wrote: Loads on fixed term contracts and a turnover of staff of many thousands per year due to retirement and resignations, could mean big payouts at a minimum.

The business has a disproportionate number of older employees.
That is the group Royal Mail would prefer to reduce however I wouldn't expect a huge number of VRs in delivery as most units have been deliberately understaffed for years.
They won't target non drivers for redundancy but you may find some non drivers might have to move units depending on local circumstances.
It's all very much guesswork at the moment though because we don't really have a clear idea of what the new delivery model might look like apart from the obvious point that it will be parcel driven.

UK to lose £500 million (so some losses offset by profits at GLS?)Martin Walsh wrote:
The company is expected to announce upward of 500 million loss in November and if they don’t have an agreed change plan than the pressure will really be applied.
Or the business as a whole to lose £500 million this year?
That is a lot of money to be losing.
You would think there would be some urgency to turning that around instead of "the USO might change in a couple of years" and "we might get some parcel hubs up and running in a couple of years."
It might be game over in a couple of years.
I realise there are a lot of gentleman postman who come to work for the fun of it (and union bods as well) and the possibility of redundancies might seem a little irksome for them.
Does Terry realise there are a lot who rely on their wages to put a roof over their head and food in their children's bellies?
There are a lot of poorly paid CWU members who rely on in-work benefits to simply make ends meet?
A little bit of communication might not go amiss. Perhaps a little bit of reassurance. We're not all earning 6 figure salaries like Terry..
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The size of the loss will be because of the upfront cost of building these parcel hubs. You can always spin numbers to suit your agenda.

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics.
If Royal Mail is really about to die then the Government will be forced to bail us out anyway.
