The SWW has 0% chance of happening. With the big increases since covid, there's probably not a single DO that doesn't need hours putting in. If anything I can see RM increasing the working week
It could work if all the part timers were bumped up to the 35 hours though. I don’t imagine it would break the bank for Royal Mail either as a lot of us work full time hours anyway.
Not meaning to go off topic here but I really don’t understand why RM are appointing (no doubt costly) solicitors to fight the average holiday claims. Why not just accept they were wrong, and offer 35 hour contracts plus say 70% of owed holiday pay to PTers. And those PT who are happy on their current contracts and don’t want to be made up to FT are given 100% of owed holiday and remain on their current contracts.

Then going forward ensure all new starters only work their contracted hours and make it clear at interview no exrea hours will be offered.

It’s win win, the PT staff who want a FT contract get one plus money, other PT staff get full backdated holiday money, RM save on paying 100% to all PT staff plus expensive court/solicitor fees, and the union can claim it as a victory.

Instead they are fighting it at great expense, they know they’ll have to pay it and they are peeing off a lot of PT staff and I just get the feeling patience is wearing thin now.
I would imagine an international company like RM have got a permanent in-house legal team who get paid anyway and the longer
they can prolong this the further down the road they can kick the can for how far back they'll have to pay the claims - it's a win win for them if they can prolong it. Until high level management are held personally liable for breaking the law this will keep happening.

Who cares.
All they will need to do is offer a couple of hundred quid and most of the morons in our office would sign up for whatever s**t RM and the CWU comes up with.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

I have to admit every single comment I’ve heard in my office about the talks has been about getting a pay increase, if it will be back dated and if we’ll get it before Christmas. No interest in what strings will be attached and what changes to the job will have to be accepted to get any pay increase.

Talks really couldn't have been at such an advanced stage 2-3 weeks ago (when it's said they actually were) as it would be done by now surely.
I don't think they are anywhere near completion.

Yeah me neither. The union is a bit clueless and probably thought if they put the pressure on publicly they could get it sorted quick. Clearly they have misjudged again. Wouldn’t be surprised if this goes on into February, as no doubt the union and Royal Mail top brass will be off on their Xmas hols soon while we all work ourselves into the ground.

I have left the service, well I will have on the 11th December.
You have your head screwed on, but for many out there, all they see is a pay rise and believe me, they will take any thing, regardless of strings.
Our office once sold a 20 min break for £200.
I had another 25 years to go, that's a lot of 20 mins lost for £200.
If I was still in the service I would think a lot about the strings.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. They last forever!

Unfortunately that’s the mentality of so many here. The other thing with attached strings is people sign the agreement, take the money then start fighting it.

So you’ve got Dave who with management approval still comes in 2 hours early and finishes 2 hours early so he can pickup his kid from school, even though the kid is now 16. He needs to finish at 1 on a Saturday too.

Then there’s Keith who hasn’t told planners or management that the bottom row and a half of 50 or so businesses on his frame doesn’t exist anymore, there’s only 2 still there meaning he’s saving a good hour a day. He simply puts his missorts, kill offs and a few other random calls there so it looks full.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
