Re: No savings
Looking at it from a processing point of view, we had a work time learning session on rmtv a few months ago saying we were at 60% automation I think it was. With all these hubs coming into operation and parcel sorting machines at the mail centers going live all the casuals have gone, plus lots of overtime, saving them millions. Why are we losing a million a day now, when we were making money employing a lot more people to sort it manually?

Re: No savings
Cost of buy of said equipment and maintaining staffing and servicing probably on a lease thing is it it is smoke and mirrors the very fact is they have given £340 million to shareholders and pocketed the rest and be damned with you asking for more. It is like the film please sir can I have some more Oliver Twist is this how this nation is now!wolfman wrote: ↑08 Sep 2022, 17:53Looking at it from a processing point of view, we had a work time learning session on rmtv a few months ago saying we were at 60% automation I think it was. Re: No savings
He is a clueless idiot . Anyone knows revisions cost a fortune and offer very little return , especially when rushed. There are a thound reasons why which are obvious to people who have actually done a walk. We shouldn't help dopey out by explaining them .

Re: No savings
Automation and efficiency are fine and laudable targets.
The problem is Royal Mail does it per unit, and not across the whole network.
A just for instance. It's far more efficient and cheaper for an MC to send everything mixed (tracked/non-tracked/foreign) in the same shroud, perhaps even to mix postcodes and I can see why they do it.
The problem is when it gets to a DO we don't have automation, so mixed shrouds like in the scenario above have to be double, or even triple-handled just to get them to the right section.
So while it's efficient for an MC and probably cheaper. The costs incurred at the DOs probably wipe out that saving entirely. Until Mr Thompson and the board grasp the nettle and improve the pipeline as a whole, rather than just blaming the posties, we will never be as reliable or as efficient as he, our customers, and most posties would like us to be.

Re: No savings
Some of that might be down to a big reduction in the amount of floor space as a result of a PSM being installed. Some will be where RM want to maximise the usage of a machine so whack whatever they can through a machineTrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑29 Dec 2022, 08:57A just for instance. Van sharing was the worst decision made. Also someone else sorting your mail so when you’re delivering you have multiple mis sorts.
