Average pay and Wallington week

All the LTB'S and latest discussion threads on getting extra holiday payments when going on holiday for those who work above their contracted hours.For part-timers 'and' full-timers.

Average pay and Wallington week

If this question has been asked/answered i appologise. Our office has a mix of Wallington (1 week off in 6) and rest days. I currently work my week off more often than not, tis gives me 46 hours in six weeks or roughly 200 in the 6 month period. somebody who will only work 48 in that same six month period will now get the holiday pay and i and many others who regularly work our weeks off will not. Has any provision or ideas been suggested for this?

If I'm understanding your question correctly (to do with the 8 hours per month), then couldn't you book o/t a day off each week, then work your week off and just book the 6th day on that too? Just like a normal week, basically.

That would be a solution however we are not able to book overtime when it is not being done. There are a certain number of hours a week to run the office and although logically and financially it wouldnt make a difference, basically it would be a 'Computer says No!' situation

Working a 1 day off each week, surely is the same as working all 6 days on a Wallington week. When I work my Wallington, I’m just doing the same overtime as someone who works their 1 day off each week. Only difference is I’m working all my 6 in one go

Yes you will be doing the same amount of overtime but the average pay is based on working 8 hours OT a month and wallington week is every 6 weeks. There will be regular occasions you wont work the required OT in a month so therefore will not recieve the holiday pay for that six month period. and as isaid in the original post someone who only works 8 hours in a month will get a payment but you will not.

Wonder how many people still work a Wallington week?
The union must surely have known this deal would affect those people.
This deal gets worse the more things like this come to light.

If you regularly work most of your time off why don't you see if you can change on to 1 in 6 then you'll qualify.

Unless I'm reading the OP wrongly he does already work a 1 in 6 (Wallington)

Ah sorry I meant the std 1 in 6 Saturdays off type rotating 1 day off per week routine.

Its his duty ( the week off rota ) that he signed into so its his choice. If there is something he'd rather do he will jump onto it OR i go onto the vacant walk and he does my duty.

The office isnt set up to switch from one to the other so easily. its a rough split of 1/3 day off and 2/3 wallington. small office of 20 walks

Technically you are doing just that on your 6th week as I believe your contract still states 38 hours per week. You need to have a good frank discussion with the manager and get them round to your point of view so you can move your hours booked around, instead of say booking 2 or 3 days on your 6th week, spread it out a bit, unfortunately it's really the only way I can think of. The nuclear option is to play hardball and put your contract in front of your manager and say you're no longer doing wallingtons, but then you loose the freedom to work as and when you please on your 6th week off. Your manager has no legal standing to make you work that 6th day for free, but compromise (such as a commitment to work 2 days at no cost on the 6th week but 8 hours is booked every 3 weeks instead) is really the only way to guarantee BOTH average holiday pay and keep wallington.
