LTB 021/21 Post Office: Pay Negotiations - Rejected Pay Offer

No. 021/2021

20th January 2021

Dear Colleagues

POST OFFICE: PAY NEGOTIATIONS – REJECTED PAY OFFER

Further to LTB592/20 dated 10th December 2020, and the associated Joint Statement
which outlined the commitment from both parties to extend negotiations with the aim
to conclude a two year pay agreement up to 31st March 2022.

Three pay meetings have been held this year, the last being on Thursday 14th January.
On Monday 18th January we received a formal pay offer (closed) which we have rejected
as being grossly inadequate and insulting as the overall package for two years is
completely derisory. Yesterday we formally responded to the closed pay offer with a
rejection, confirming our position adopted at the meeting.

We are bound by the confidentiality protocols of pay negotiations which means I’m not
able to share details of the rejected pay offer at this stage. Suffice to say we are
confident that all members would be suitably horrified by the paucity of the offer.

Today we have consulted with our senior Reps, all of whom are fully supportive of the
rejection of the pay offer. The strong view is, the Post Office should be recognising our
members – all of whom are Key Workers – in a very real and meaningful way. The
reality is, the pittance on offer is a slap in the face for all members who are working so
hard to keep Post Office services going to our communities.

I would like to thank members for their ongoing support and patience. We wish to
reassure Branches we are doing our very best to get a reasonable and fair pay deal but
we are meeting resistance from the Post Office who clearly do not value the endeavours
of our members. Therefore there is a strong likelihood this matter will be escalated to
Acas at the end of February if the Post Office does not make significant improvements
to the current offer. This date is in keeping with the agreed intentions as contained in
the Joint Statement of 10th December.

We have a further negotiating meeting planned for next Monday 25th, following which
any developments will be reported to the Postal Executive.

Yours sincerely

Andy Furey
