LTB 295/16 Post Office: Finance - Job Losses

No. 295/2016

12th May 2016

POST OFFICE: FINANCE – JOB LOSSES

Dear Colleagues

The Post Office yesterday announced plans for further job losses, this time in the Finance area, including Financial Specialists (FSs) working in Crown Offices. We have received S188 and HR1 notices for the following reductions in roles:

There are also significant losses amongst management grades which means Unite is also facing 51 job losses in the Finance and Commercial functions.

The job losses above have been announced without any formal dialogue or negotiation with this Union. Indeed, when we last met with Jeremy Law, Head of Sales – Financial Services on 24th March we were taken through a presentation on Financial Services including the “Plans to Deliver Greater Revenue and Growth” and astonishingly even though this meeting was only 6 weeks ago, there was absolutely no reference made to job cuts.

We also requested a further presentation on the Future Vision for Financial Services and it was agreed by Jeremy Law that he would present this to us at a date to be agreed in the near future. Disappointingly this meeting has not taken place to date and there has been no consultation over these proposed job losses.

This announcement for a 26% reduction in CWU graded roles in Finance comes on the back of the recent announcements for further Crown Office franchising and plans to close the Defined Benefit pension scheme on 31st August 2016. This is another devastating blow for our members and either indicates a crisis management approach or conversely a policy of managed decline rather than developing a vision for future growth.

Further developments will be reported as appropriate. If you have any questions in relation to this LTB, please contact lsheridan@cwu.org

Yours sincerely
