LTB 287/17 Post Office: Pay Negotiations 2017/18

No. 287/2017

22nd May 2017

Dear Colleague

POST OFFICE: PAY NEGOTIATIONS 2017/18

Our negotiating team which included Lynn Simpson and Mole Meade, Postal Executive members and our Territorial Representatives met with the Post Office today in pursuance of our pay claim.

Disappointingly, the Post Office today responded to our legitimate claim by rejecting it on the grounds of “affordability”. We obviously did not accept the Post Office’s position in this regard especially as there have been internal statements and/or press reports strongly indicating that the Post Office is due to announce for 2016/17 its best financial performance for a considerable number of years. It follows that the meaningful contribution our members have made to turn the Post Office finances around should be fully recognised with a realistic pay offer taking into account the Retail Price Index (RPI) for April which was 3.5%. Furthermore it should be noted the date for the cost of living pay increase is 1st April 2017, yet some seven weeks on from this date, we have still not made any tangible progress.

As a consequence of the Post Office rejecting our claim, we have requested a full breakdown and analysis with supporting documentation in respect of the Post Office’s headline cost figures provided today. Analysing the current pay bill costs and the estimate of the costs of meeting our claim is an important activity. With this in mind, we have agreed to meet the Post Office again on Wednesday 7th June where it is hoped that real progress can be made.

Further developments will be reported.

Yours sincerely
