An agreement has been reached between the CWU and the Post Office over the pay and transformation plans for admin and supply chain workers.
The deal is the result of months of negotiation and follows industrial action taken by workers in the run up to Christmas.
As a result of the gruelling negotiations the union has overcome the real threat of compulsory redundancies and achieved a three year pay and reward agreement.
It is clear that on all the issues we were in dispute with the Post Office over, we have made significant progress and have shifted the Post Office's position in a meaningful way.
Andy Furey "It is clear that on all the issues we were in dispute with the Post Office over, we have made significant progress and have shifted the Post Office's position in a meaningful way," said CWU national officer Andy Furey.
Admin and supply chain workers are to be asked by the Post Office to express a preference as to whether they would like to apply for voluntary redundancy.
CWU has agreed to this as it will help to maximise the redeployment options available to workers.
The Post Office and CWU have agreed it is essential to undertake a full review of all aspects of the relationship between the two parties. The review will aim to radically improve industrial relations between our respective organisations, at all levels.
This review will start before the end of January 2015 and both parties aim to complete it by April 2015.
Post Office
The notice served by the Post Office on existing CWU representative structures and facilities in Supply Chain (CViT) has been withdrawn.
Details of the consolidated pay increases for Supply Chain & Admin grades in every year of the deal, which equate to 6 per cent over the next three years, are as follows:
Year 1 (2014/15) - A 2.1% consolidated increase, backdated to 1st April 2014;
Year 2 (2015/16) - A 1.9% consolidated increase, effective 1 April 2015;
Year 3 (2016/17) - A 1.9% consolidated increase, effective 1 April 2016.
Swansea supply chain A non-consolidated transformation payment of £1400 (pro rata for part-timers), is to be paid on delivery of all agreed change in Supply Chain including duty revisions and headcount reductions in each depot. This would be payable in the first pay packet after all change has been delivered (expected to be late March 2015).
The Post Office released a statement committing to "make every possible effort to continue their excellent record of introducing change without compulsory redundancies".
Andy said the union will work with the Post Office to implement all change by voluntary means: "For the avoidance of doubt, this agreement does not prejudice or undermine the CWU's opposition to compulsory redundancy.
"We would like to thank all of the workers in the admin and supply chain who have been supportive throughout negotiations, and we urge them to vote yes in
the forthcoming ballot which will seek endorsement of the deal."
