Post Office: Admin & Supply Chain Pay – Consultative Ballot Result
Further to LTB 574/14 dated 12th September 2014, I would like to advise Branches that our members working in Admin & Supply Chain have delivered a resounding 90% YES vote in the consultative ballot to reject the Post Office’s derisory pay offer.
Ballot Result
Yes Votes 699 90%
No Votes 77 10%
Turnout 57%
We are informing the members concerned of the ballot result via a home-mailing.
Letter to Paula Vennells, Chief Executive
I have today written to Paula Vennells providing details of the ballot result and to urge her to authorise the Post Office negotiating team to return to the bargaining table with an improved offer. The message to the Post Office is now clear – our members will NOT accept this insulting pay offer and given the seriousness of the situation, real progress needs to be made very quickly to avoid a ballot for industrial action.
CViT Representatives Briefing, Thursday 16th October
There will be a briefing for CViT Unit Reps, Area Distribution Reps and Branch Secretaries with CViT members, and one Divisional Rep per division. Details are as follows:
16th October: 10.30am – 1pm
John Tocher Room
Mechanics Institute
103 Princess Street
Manchester, M1 6DD
As this is an industrial relations matter, I would expect the Post Office to pay for travel for the briefing of CViT unit reps. Additionally I would encourage all CViT unit reps to urgently request paid release time in order to ensure attendance at this important meeting.
I will be discussing next steps with our Postal Executive at the next statutory meeting on Tuesday 7th October. Further developments will be reported following this meeting. If you have any questions in relation to this LTB, please contact lsheridan@cwu.org.
Yours sincerely
Andy Furey
Assistant Secretary

Re: Admin & Supply Chain Pay – Consultative Ballot Result
FACT: Admin & Supply Chain workers were due a pay rise in April.
FACT: In December last year, the members in Supply Chain joined their counter colleagues in taking a day of industrial action to protest against the business's 'pay freeze' strategy.
FACT: POL got so rattled by the day of solidarity that it helped them to focus! They made promises to the members and the CWU that they would get to the negotiating table in January for pay talks.
FACT: POL settled the Counters dispute but dragged their feet on Admin and Supply Chain talks despite the CWU constant requests to get into negotiations.
FACT: Their eventual measly offer was an insult to every member in Admin and Supply Chain which is why 90% of members rejected their derisory pay offer.
FACT: When POL heard the result, they decided to show members just what a 'caring and listening' employer it really is and opted for using scare tactics to frighten members. Not content with telling members that they are of such little value they are only worth a below inflation pay rise, they then have the audacity to say that their 'finger in the air' savings had not been realised and therefore 'off the table.'
FACT: They have failed to recognise that we are a progressive union and that our members understand the need to find new ways of working that are efficient and competitive and that we understand the need to talk to them about growth and new initiatives. However we need to be very clear...They are not having their cake and eat it!
FACT: Members in Admin and Supply chain have a right to expect to be treated with dignity and respect as well as rewarded for their commitment and hardwork.
FACT: The business maybe reflecting what to do next but we must hold our nerve and not blink. They will be looking for signs of weakness but member's need to stay determined.
FACT: POL need to stop their posturing and treating its employees like they are worthless idiots. They need to get back to the table and make a serious offer that is acceptable to the members. Remember they are battle weary after the counters dispute whilst we are still warming up, Whilst they are goading this union from behind their office desks in the hope member's disgust in the pay offer will deflate, the CWU and its members are considering our next steps to ensure that they should be under no illusion that we are not going to be walked all over.
If that means members need to consider preparing to dust off their plackards, find their wooly hats and fingerless gloves then sobeit but they would do well to listen to the discontent, nip this in the bud and get back to the negotiating table before they bite off more than they can chew
