24 March 2011
295/11 POL: Pay 2010 and 2011 and future of the Crown Office Network
TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
POL: PAY 2010 & 2011 AND FUTURE OF THE CROWN OFFICE NETWORK
We would like to inform Branches that we have met with RMG/POL today and have again made good progress with our discussions on Pay and the Future of the Crown Office Network.
On this basis, RMG/POL have offered a 28 day extension to the life of the Industrial Action ballot, in order that further discussions can take place. In view of the progress made we have accepted this offer.
This development means that notice will not be served today as originally planned. We now have a further 28 days to consider if strike action is necessary to achieve our objectives.
We expect to be in a position early next week where we can provide more detailed information on the significant progress we have made in negotiations.
Further developments will be reported in due course. Branches are urged to bring this LTB to the attention of all Crown Office members.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward Andy Furey

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: POL: Pay 2010 and 2011 and future of the Crown Office Ne
Unbelievable!!!
What a classic Royal Mail ploy the CWU has fallen for once again.
Not for the first time in recent years, Royal Mail executives have offered just enough in negotiations to prevent the CWU calling for strike action over a difficult period, namely Easter.
It will be very interesting to find out just how much actually IS on offer after the Easter/ Royal Wedding period. (Don't book a holiday on the strength of it).
It may be noted that there is absolutely no mention of what improvements have been made to the offer in the original post, no doubt for reasons of "confidentiality".
Ever been had???

I believe I am right in saying that it remains possible for the CWU to call Industrial Action over the Easter/Royal Wedding/May Bank Holiday period.Running Man wrote:Ever been had???

Re: POL: Pay 2010 and 2011 and future of the Crown Office Ne
You are correct. The 28 day extension provided does not mean that industrial action can't be taken until another 4 weeks. It's a buffer period for more talks which, if at any time they break down, all that's required by law is 7 days notice of when strike action will take place. The BFO wrote:I believe I am right in saying that it remains possible for the CWU to call Industrial Action over the Easter/Royal Wedding/May Bank Holiday period.Running Man wrote:Ever been had???
Supposed to be one major sticking point in the talks. Individual referal targets maybe?
Come the mutualisation....

Individual targets and referals are holding us back, its what POL want so they can get rid of clerks.I thought pay and job security would create a barrier but no sales again thats all they are interested in, i won't be voting yes and lets hope the union concentrates on proper issues like the phantom shares, holidays, pay, and an environment where no bullying takes place.

None of the above alters the fact that the CWU have been hoodwinked once again into NOT causing disruption at a very difficult time of the year.
Let's wait and see how POL have managed to find money when, supposedly, the kitty was totally empty only several weeks ago.
My money is on a pathetic lump sum of around £800 with more strings attached than Thunderbirds.
Prove me wrong.

Two Year Pay Agreement
Year One: 2010/11 - 2.25% consolidated and pensionable increase in basic pay fully backdated to 1st April 2010.
Year Two: 2011/12 – 1.4% consolidated and pensionable pay increase effective from 1st April 2011
Overall compounded pay increase over two years: 3.68%
Colleague Share: £600
The agreement also contains a ColleagueShare lump sum payment of £600 (pro rata for part timers), which is in lieu of the third tranche of shares.
Lump Sum: £400
A further lump sum of £400 (pro rata for part timers) together with ColleagueShare of £600, will be paid as a combined lump sum of £1000 with April salaries.
The overall package provides full time Customer Service Consultants with £1431 in their April Salaries (pro rata for part timers).
Future of the Crown Office Network: One Year Extension of the Guarantee
The industrial action ballot was not just about obtaining a pay rise for members. It was also linked to job security and the future of the Crown Office Network. Therefore we are pleased to have secured a one year extension of the guarantee on the existing 373 Crown Offices until March 2012. Additionally, there is a review clause within the agreement which allows a joint review in September 2011, with a view to extending the guarantee beyond March 2012.
Goes to membership ballot this Friday.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Re: POL: Pay 2010 and 2011 and future of the Crown Office Ne
What do we think of the new pay deal? considering a week ago the shares had no cash value, and POL had no money to give us a pay rise and we are overpaid then a week later we are getting about £1400 for full time clerks i find it all very odd.Well done to the union and everyone involved , i hope no strings were attached over individual sales and targets to cause us more stress.

I will consider myself proved wrong!!!
I will never, EVER be able to fathom out what goes on in the minds of Royal Mail senior management.
Actually, maybe that's not a bad thing?

The pay rise is for 2 years with a increase of consolidated pay of £705 in total or £29.37 a month.kathleen1 wrote:we are getting about £1400 for full time clerks
After Tax and insurance I will receive around £20 more in my wages but since our last consolidated pay rise my monthly outgoings have risen sharply, much more than
£20 a month so my standard of living has dropped and will continue to do so.
Also my monthly outgoings will continue to rise with Petrol, Gas, Electric, Food Bill all on the up.
It's the oldest trick in the book, offer nothing then let the workers feel they have won, give in with a Pay Rise and the famous "Smoke Screen Lump Sum".
Now the next pay rise will be 2012 if we haven't already been Transformed whatever that may mean.

Re: POL: Pay 2010 and 2011 and future of the Crown Office Ne
Indeed Mrwhippy this is a very old trick. Offer nothing, or very little, and then give a bit more and the workforce will get all excited thinking they've put one up the management. It's a trick I have seen many times during my time in POL. So I can understand in a sense why people are happy-pay rise and no need to take IA-but you better believe the business will look for something in return so I wouldnt get too excited about it all.
