Police hunting three men after brutal robbery

Two masked robbers punched a security guard to the ground and stole a cash box at a Post Office in Wavertree .

At around 8.20am on Friday a security guard was making a cash collection at the Post Office on Lawrence Road when two masked men approached him.

The men punched the security guard in the head, knocking him to the floor, before making off with a cash box in a dark-coloured Vauxhall Zafira driven by a third person.

The guard was not injured but left very shaken by the incident.

Police are at the Post Office on Lawrence Road in Wavertree after a security guard was attacked by two masked robbers who stole a cash box

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “Robberies of security guards are not victimless crimes and it is unacceptable for this guard to be subjected to this ordeal while he was just carrying out his job is unacceptable.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area including the examination of CCTV and forensic examinations.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen males with dye on their clothes after the incident, or anyone who is given cash with dye on it following this incident.

“We’d be keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who saw the offenders acting suspiciously in the Lawrence Road area to get in contact on 0151 777 4065 or 101 quoting incident reference 181 of 12 January. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Any information no matter how small will be treated with the utmost confidence and could assist with our investigation.”
