A Post Office in Aberdeenshire is to close after the couple who ran the branch for almost 50 years announced their retirement.
The couple are clocking out after 46 years at Boddam Post Office and have been thanked for their years of loyalty, commitment and the service.
The temporary closure of the Post Office, known as the Red Shed, comes as a shock to many residents who reside in the village. With no date, as of yet, as to when it will re-open, locals are being encouraged to use alternative branches.
A spokeswoman from the Post Office thanked the couple by saying: "The couple who have run Boddam Post Office for 46 years are retiring. We want to thank them for their loyal and committed service to their community.
"The shop, known as The Red Shed at Boddam Post Office is on the market and the owners are still looking for a buyer. Boddam Post Office is, unfortunately, due to close on March 31 at 4pm.
"We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we would welcome any interest in operating a Post Office service in Boddam. In the interim alternative branches include Clerkhill and Peterhead."
Local MP, David Duguid has raised his concerns over Boddam Post Office closing. He said: "The closure of Boddam Post Office at the Red Shed is a hammer blow to the local community who rely on this valuable resource on a day-to-day basis.
"It’s extremely concerning that the village will now be left without a post office during these challenging times.
"Post offices are a lifeline for places like Boddam, especially for elderly or vulnerable residents who struggle to travel and now face a ten-mile round trip to Clerkhill in Peterhead.
"The importance of rural post offices for banking, access to cash and parcel assistance cannot be understated and I hope a buyer can be found for this unique premises in the heart of the village."
Boddam Post Office is due to close on March 31 at 4pm.
