Gloria Buckle waited 20 minutes to be served at Hanley Post Office

The Post Office has apologised to angry customers - after complaints about '20-minute waits' in its city centre branch. Hanley Post Office has operated from within WHSmith - inside The Potteries Centre - ever since the controversial closure of its flagship Tontine Street branch.

But the branch has been hit with staffing issues and sickness to leave ever-lengthening queues. Customer Gloria Buckle has labelled the service 'unacceptable' following her experience on Saturday, April 9.

She said: "When I got there, there was a queue of about eight people waiting to be served and only one young man serving a customer for foreign currency. After about five minutes I went up to him and asked to see the manager. He replied that the manager does not work on a Saturday. I went on to say that the lack of service was unacceptable. He said his colleague was on a break.

"By this time, the queue had grown to almost 15 people who were all beginning to get angry at the long wait time. After about 10 minutes his female assistant returned.

"I had been waiting for more than 20 minutes when eventually I was served. They need to ensure more assistants are provided on a Saturday in the future as this is no way to conduct business."
