CWU negotiators submit proposals to company bosses…

“We want to reach an early settlement and that’s why we’ve put forward a claim for a one-year deal,” said CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey today after formally setting out the union’s 2021 agenda to Post Office chief executive Nick Read).

The CWU plan, which has been fully endorsed by the executive committee, calls for a 3 per cent increase in pensionable pay rise with effect from April 1st 2021 and flowing through to all relevant allowances, as well as a reduction in the basic working week – without loss of pay – from 35 to 34 hours.

“We’re also asking for meaningful improvements to the company’s defined contribution (DC) pensions scheme in the immediate term, with a view to shifting this towards a collective (CDC) scheme going forward – essentially along similar lines to the new arrangements being introduced for our Royal Mail colleagues,” Andy added.

In his letter to Mr Read, Andy expresses the strong desire for the earliest possible resolution to the 2021 pay bargaining round and that is why we have offered a a number of dates this month for negotiations between the union and the company.

“It’s our view that the Post Office can and indeed must make an extra effort to meet the aspirations of our members and also adequately reward them for their fantastic efforts as key workers over the last year.

“We are therefore entering these negotiations in good faith, determined to achieve the best outcome we can for our members and it’s our hope that the company will respond positively,” Andy concludes.
