Redirected Mail Delivered to Ex Husband!
This is an odd one, due to the unusual legal status of the mail in general and redirections in particular. I'm not sure that it's a breech of the DPA, but you could ask a lawyer. Two different avenues you might want to look at:
It might be possible to take action against Royal Mail under the Consumer Protection Act, under the section about working competently. But this law is new, so it may form a test case; redirection is an inherently manual process, so some level of human error may be expected; and you aren't the customer, the sender is.
If your (estranged) husband opened a letter which was clearly not intended for him then he may well have broken the law (Postal Services Act). You could complain to the police. I understand that some police forces have dedicated domestic violence officers, I would start there, I would be surprised if they haven't come across this issue before.
You may want to bear in mind that you may need Royal Mail's help with the second course of action, while pursuing the first may annoy them somewhat.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works out well.
