New to PPI - help with separating please

Hi all,
I've just signed up for a PPI account and I'm going to drop off my first batch of post at the PO this morning.
The instructions I've been given for separating the mail is a little vague, so I wondered if someone could check if I've got the right idea.
The bags I have:
- 1st Class letters
- 1st Class large letters
- 1st Class large letters Signed For
- 1st Class Small parcels Signed For
- Special Delivery large letters
- Special Delivery Small parcels
- International ( Mix of airsure, ISF, large letters and small parcels)

Can the Signed For bags be mixed? Same with the Special Delivery? Or do they need to be separated by size as above?

Some of these bags will only have 1 or 2 items in them, so I was wondering if it's really necessary to use the 11kg bags, or are there other sizes or alternatives people use? - it seems a bit excessive for 1 envelope.

Just keep the specials separate

If as you say, it is not a massive amount then I wouldn't even keep the internationals separate

I've also been told that Airsure and ISF could go in to the same sack as SD with a blue cable tie. Can you confirm this is right? With only a few items it would make sense.

Yes they should be in the same sack. SD's/Air Sure and ISF are basically the same product, just that SD's are UK only and AS/ISF are for overseas.

Split the rest into 1st and 2nd class.

I know most of the people on here are only trying to help the customer and i commend that, but in reality its just cutting corners and i wouldnt think that colleagues our the the mail centres are going to that thankful for us in deliveries reducing their work loads, Mail Centres are closing due to lack of work, we shouldnt be advising anything thats going to contribute to that, even if that means sacks going in with one letter in them, it saves jobs in the long term doing the job correctly,

How would staff in deliveries feel if those lost hours in mail centre were then taken up by sending staff out for collections from the mail centre and removing those hours from local delivery offices?

we have all got to look out for each other so please just advise customers to do things correctly, which i completely agree may not be the most efficient way of doing things but it does help safe guard jobs

The problem for me is that I run out of mail sacks pretty quickly as I've been told to separate out all my mail into same sacks.

The previous poster says that mixing the post will reduce staff workload however wouldn't it just increase since the mail has to be sorted out again? Sorry have no idea how it works in a sorting office..

As a customer it's frustrating as I run out of sacks quite often and then end up having to phone customer services to ask when my sack order is coming. I have to do this every single time I want new sacks. I place an order online, wait then phone customer services once or twice.

If its not too far why dont you drop off your mail there and collect the sacks...theres plenty...

How far is your nearest RM mail centre?
If its not too far why dont you drop off your mail there and collect the sacks...theres plenty...

great advice there are you willing to take redundancy with the jobs lost if all customers near mail centres just dropped off their mail instead of getting it collected, who needs to worry about competition from other companies when mc staff are trying to cut our jobs in deliveries and distribution

Does this customer have a collection? If they do the driver should be leaving them plenty of spare bags.

With our PPI sacks, we ended up doing it like this:

- 1st Class letters, LL and SP in one sack
- 1st Class Signed For letters, LL and SP in one sack.
- 2nd Class letters, LL and SP in one sack
- 2nd Class Signed For letters, LL and SP in one sack.

If we just have one or 2 Specials, the driver prefers us to just hand them over without a sack.

We have a collection and the driver gives us spare sacks whenever we ask, or will bring some the next day.
