Long tube

Post by irate customer »

I need to send a fishing rod from Northern Ireland to Wales. I have put it inside a cardboard tube to protect it, but here lies the problem. On looking at the Parcelforce and Royal Mail guidelines, I think I saw that I cannot send anything over 150 centimetres in length. My tube is 166cm long, 9cm in diameter and weighs 1.9kg. I'm hoping I have got this wrong, but if not is there any other service I can use? I understand that rules are rules, but I'm only 16cm over. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it just depends on the PO taking it, I've got things taller than me (that couldn't fit in my van)

TBH I've delivered parcels that are longer, but I shouldn't have because the PO shouldn't have accepted it. Same as the PO that shouldn't have accepted aerosol cans etc.

Have a look at Parcel2Go's website. You can enter the dimensions of your parcel on there and get a quote :Very Happy

We don't take anything over 1.5m at our PO - it's a slippery slope if you start ignoring the odd few cm!

Unfortunately, your parcel(s) are too big (or heavy) for our standard services. However, please don't go just yet! We have a team of staff trained in finding services for such an occasion. Could you provide some brief contact details below and one of the team will look into this in more detail and get back to you. Go on, give us a chance! We may surprise you!
Parcel Monkey won't bring anything up for Northern Ireland

The one I did find was through Interparcel and they quote £20.99

Yes... I've had aerosol cans and everything which the local PO then wouldn't accept as a docket left because it is a prohibited item so I had to sit with it in the callers office. Considered locking it in the safe but didn't think the owners of the specials would thank me for it if it did explode for any reason lol

Its banned from mail in case it goes by air. A lot of mail carried by aircraft goes in unpressurised holds. Aersol is basically a gas under pressure - the 2 situations are quite explosive when combined.

On the ground no problem at all and as it was likely to stay local I think the PO were applying the rules too rigidly.
