25mm thick - fit through 25mm gap, or measure under 25mm?

Post by anewman »

Have a small package I want to post, mostly the thickness is made up of bubble wrap to protect the contents. I have gotten out the vernier callipers. Measured loosely as it stands, it's a little over 25mm. I can easily squeeze the measurement down to under 20mm at the thickest part. Was planning on putting a first class large stamp and dropping it in the letterbox but would hate for the recipient to end up with unpaid postage charges.

Many thanks in advance :)

As far as I know the package has to pass through the test device without being forced or squeezed in any fashion, so my best advice is to pop into a PO and get them to test it with their "Pricing in proportion" cut out.

The reason it has to pass through without aid is that the automated system in Mail centres may reject it and pass it on for Surcharge.

To be on the safe side, I'd make sure it passes through easily. I've had items that have been surcharged before now and then when the people have come to collect them, they've passed through the template with a squeeze and should therefore in theory have been surcharged, but I've let them go. However, they've then been delayed for a few weeks whilst going through revenue protection.

Use a pin to prick the bubbles of the bubble wrap and there shouldn't be a problem. :nana
