Hello,
As part of my job I have to send hundreds of items out each month by Recorded Signed For. I send these out via a local PO and up until a couple of months the reciepts (most of the time) said 'Address Confirmed: Y.' However, recently, all of them say 'Address Confirmed: N' and seem to take much longer to arrive and get a signature (if it ever gets one!) Is there anyone that can shed some light on this for me?
Thanks
Sam

royal mail is struggling with a massive backlog which royal mail denies exists, the mail held in the backlog has a low priority compared to the recently sent mail, don't blame the postman the problem lies with royal mail management and to be honest royal mail is in a shambles ... some items of mail are taking a age to arrive, i am currently waiting on 3 items (packets) and i don't honestly know when i will recieve them

Re: Recorded Signed For
Its all to do with the system we use. After we put in the postcode and door number it used to ask us to confirm the address. It would then show as confirmed. It now no longer asks us to confirm so all receipts inc spec del now show as unconfirmed address. Don't know why they changed it but they did.
Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Recorded Signed For
Thanks for that, seems a bit weird that Royal Mail wouldn't even find a system to confirm addresses for the SD service

They took the validation off of the system a couple of months ago, the problem was that customers were being held up at the counter if the address could not be verified or if it had not been up dated with a new company name if they have just moved into a new premises. hope this helps its a PO wide thing not branch specific.

Re: Recorded Signed For
Agreed. The reason is because of the 'Q buster' initiative. This means "get 'em served asap, get 'em out" in laymans terms. Therefore as ja_lo states, it was removed to speed up the whole process. I can put 'never-never-land' and it will go through. This will mean aggro for the customer but POL care not a jot. If someone can defend the position of why they did this... be my guestja_lo wrote:They took the validation off of the system a couple of months ago, the problem was that customers were being held up at the counter if the address could not be verified or if it had not been up dated with a new company name if they have just moved into a new premises. hope this helps its a PO wide thing not branch specific.
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

Re: Recorded Signed For
Agreed. When I was serving, the system rejected half the addresses. Had to try 2 or 3 times with different strategies before machine would accept the address, or present you with a 'manual override' button. Business reply addresses ALWAYS failed, even though they have a unique postcode. Premises with multiple commercial occupants also a nightmare. Same thing happened on the old computer system till they removed address verification. Then they reinstated it on the new system, only to find it still didn't work and disabled it again!ja_lo wrote:They took the validation off of the system a couple of months ago, the problem was that customers were being held up at the counter if the address could not be verified or if it had not been up dated with a new company name if they have just moved into a new premises. hope this helps its a PO wide thing not branch specific.
Actually you can spot a duff postcode with a bit of experience. Stuff like "....Bristol, BR9 1T7" when Bristol is BS and you can't have a number on the end. For those of you who work in a BO, the address finder on the intranet PC is more reliable, it will also look up a postcode and return the address.
Going back to the original question, the fact that the address is not verified will have no bearing on the delivery of a correctly addressed letter, as the letter is sorted solely on the address on the envelope. Any delay is another question, as covered above.
