Missing special Delivery

Post by Disgusted »

I have paid for a parcel to be delivered from Leicester via Special Delivery.
It was posted Monday, so should have been with me before 1pm Tuesday.
Tuesday came and went so I started to track the parcel.
When I entered the tracking number, to my suprise it had been delivered on Tuesday and 08:47.
I telephoned Royal Mail and eventually I was told never mind it's insured for £500.00.
This was true, but I would prefer my parcel and so on Friday I telephoned again.
This time I was informed that it was not lost, but had been delivered to a different number in the street.
When I asked "What number" I was informed that they could not tell me as it had been delivered to the right address!
When I said "But not the person it was addressed to" they said that that didn't concern them.
I told them that I can prove who I am and in fact there are only three people in the world with the same name they said "So"
The parcel has my name on it, I paid for the service, but I cannot have the parcel and cannot claim on the insurance that "I" paid for.
Maybe it's because my name sound foreign that they don't want to help?

Any ideas?

We don't deliver to names, we only deliver to addresses, if the address on the special was wrong then the only thing you can do is try to find out where it was delivered to and try asking them otherwise you need to get the package sent again only this time to your correct address.

If they were as blunt as you say on the phone then they shouldn't have been but DGP is right...we deliver to addresses, not names and the blame lies with the sender for using the wrong address.
Or with whoever gave them the details if that is where the mix up began.

The idiot who put the address on the parcel started the ball rolling but it still has my name on it and I was the one who paid for the service.
Someone is going to have a happy christmas, the contents were valued at £485.00

The parcel has been signed for by someone at the address it was delivered to.

If the postcde could be confirmed it would help as there are only 16 houses in the road with the same postcode and one of them is mine.

I would still like to give the so called magager i spoke to a special delivery once this is over with. :cfo

The postman doesn't look at the postcode, just the address and as he did his job properly then there's nothing that RM can do about it. You should contact the seller and get them to send it again or ask them the address it was sent to and you could go and ask them for the item.

Maybe you could try and get your money back from your credit card company because it does sound like you've been had.

ps. If there are only 15 houses then what about knocking on each of them and asking did they receive a package that wasn't meant for them.

Right then!

Now disturbed all the neighbours and have found out where it went.

It was delivered to to my nextdoor neighbour, who's young child signed for it.

Then my neighbour took it to his next door neighbour as it had his house number on it

When they said it was not for them he continued up the street without anyone claiming it.

Yesterday it was returned to the Post Office and will probably be returned to Leicester.

Problem is the address in Leicester is now empty as the occupants are in Australia :cuppa

Now there's a good question...what happens to a special delivery if it can't be R.T.S'd?
I assume after a P739 the local D.O. would hold it for 7 day's then........?

I would assume it would go to Belfast and kept for a certain period of time in the hopes that
someone will come forward and claim the item. :hmmmm
