Neighbour leaving my mail out in the open on my doorstep

Post by smgreen »

apologies if this has been asked before - I couldn't find anything when searching the forum.

I share an outer front door & porch with my neighbour who has a flat below me. If our mail gets delivered before the outer door is opened in the morning, it lies in the porch, and whichever one of us (myself/neighbour) leaves the house first, will put the respsective mail through each others letterboxes, and open the front door. However, my neighbour has taken to leaving my mail on my doorstep and opening the outer door so that the mail is in plain view and anyone could walk up and take it. We've asker her to stop doing this, but she continues (we don't have good relations and I''m sure she's just doing it to wind us up....).

What can I do to ensure my mail gets put through my letterbox? Is my neighbour breaking any laws? (doubt it...) Can the Royal Mail do anything? Or should I just do the same with her mail and maybe she will get the message? :hmmmm

You can pick your mail up at the office or tell the postman to put though the door.

letterbox outside property clearly marked as yours.

pet hate of mine getting blame for such things as this.

Or give postie key to outer door.

we do that for some flats, have keys for the outer doors so we can access boxes etc inside

Thanks for the replies.

Think I like the idea of giving my postie a key to the outer door.

Will try and catch him this week, and see if he's happy with that.

yeah generally posties have keys to their boxes anyway, so whoever covers your round will have the keys for that round.

should be ok.

if he refuses call his office, they will sort it :cool

You could always put a mail box outside your property Image
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Only problem with giving the postie a key is... well, two problems... what if he loses it by accident and what if he's off work and the relief postie doesn't take it with him?

I think a box on the outside would be a better bet.

Or, just get hold of the post first and chuck theirs on the outside step instead :Very Happy
