Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
I'm waiting in today for a pre 1pm SD package.
The online tracer says this has already been delviered but there is no ePOD yet.
I rang royal mail who said it was marked as delivered at 9.24am.
I live in a small rural village with a small local PO (in a shop) but its a fair distance from the sorting office. Could it that it is marked as delviered at the sorting office before it is actually delviered so that the postie isnt under as much of a time constraint? (and that I can expect delviery at somepoint this morning)
thx

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
Yes, that is the likely scenario
Special Delieries have to be entered into the system by 14.20 hrs each day - With Posties getting out and coming back later this means that it is often impossible to get all items entered in the time between the postie returning and the set time for doing this (presume it is still 14.20 Hrs, but I no longer work for RM). Many offices therefore enter all the items into the system after handing them out to the Posties in the morning and then simply confirm or amend the items as appropriate later in the day. If a Postie cannot get the item delivered, and they will not be returning to their office before 14.20 they are expected to phone in and advise this, but given that RM expects this to be done at the Posties expense not all will do so (or may not have a mobile phone or access to a phone booth).

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
Marked as delivered at 9.24 seems very odd unless it's a PDA (and in that case it will have the signature along with the upload) otherwise it looks like the postie has either pre-empted (?) the delivery of he's delivered it to the wrong address.

No-one should EVER ring their specials in! RM take the piss with that, there's absolutely no way on earth I'm ringing them in and anyone who thinks I am can go frak themselves.plainpat wrote:but given that RM expects this to be done at the Posties expense not all will do so (or may not have a mobile phone or access to a phone booth).

If the delivery details ARE being forged (rather than system error, or delivered to wrong address), then I agree.

Awww...... c'mon Andy, do you think there are enough IB officers ?
For all postman who don't have a mobile phone, or those like taurus88 who refuse to use their's at there own expense, these specials are logged in as delivered anytime during the morning. This is done on the orders of the dom ...... he's keeping his QOS figures looking good and he's protecting his bonus. We also do the same thing with trackback packets and parcels even before they leave the office, we aint got enough PDA's to go around ! If you called in the IB, we'd cease to function

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
Been here over 3 weeks and not phoned in 1 single S.D. I haven't been told to do so or been provided with a number, even if I was, I don't agree with having to use your own phone etc. So is it important to ring in?

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
No it is not important to ring in.
And it is not about the DOM forging QofS figures.
A postie turning up at 1.15 but writing 12.55 on the card - that's forging QofS figures.

It's bad enough, claiming that it was delivered on time, when it wasn't. But to say it's been delivered, when it hasn't, causes serious problems, when something goes missing. The seller, has what most people would consider to be evidence, that it was recieved by the buyer. But the buyer, hasn't recieved it. Now why would anyone return the money paid, when they think they can prove that it was recieved?
Would YOU, if you didn't know about this fraud?

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
No it's not Andy....delivered is the default position until update that's all.
Anyway the PDA has made all of this redundant...unless like mine today it goes mental and you have to go old school with a pen and card.

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
If it's just the default position, then how can it have a time listed?
Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting for a moment, that Delivery Posties are complcit in this. But when the system is providing confirmation that something has been delivered. And that's being used as evidence, in dispute, regarding Internet sales. Then at the very least, it's unfortunate minformation.

Re: Special Delivery Marked as Delivered
When the posties go out on delivery, say at 10am - all the Special Deliveries are confirmed as delivered.
This is only for walking posties using a written delivery card, like in the old days.
When I return to the DO, (at 2.30) the status of any Special Deliveries I haven't delivered is updated.
For posties who don't return to the DO but pouch off, the status of their undelivered Specials is updated when they (the Specials) return to the DO from the PO where they were pouched off.
If the PHG doesn't do this (confirm them "early") then all Specials delivered but not confirmed by 1.30 will show up as failures.
That is - if the PHG waits unti I return to the DO at 2.30 to confirm the status of my Specials they will all have shown up as failures, even if they were delivered according to specification.
Is the system crap? Yes.
Should all Specials now go with drivers equipped with a PDA? Yes.
