Royal Mail 1st Class Standard time estimate

hello ,
i wondered if any of you guys could give me a rough estimate for how long a item should take ( and when i can suspect something has gone wrong )

it is a dvd in a jiffy bag ( ebay sale ) sent from Hemel Hempstead ( 27 miles north west of london ) to glasgow.

posted late in the day tuesday 28th september.

also as a matter of curiosity .......if you enquire at a sorting office if you have undelivered mail .......can you collect without a ''you were out'' card ?
( i know of course you need to show other ID )

It will probably be with you tomorrow. If it was posted late in the day on Tuesday it may not of made the overnight connections to Glasgow.
Do you think you have an undelivered item, when was that posted? or are you wanting to collect the package you are waiting on, which is'nt an undelivered item yet.

i was asking about the cards because i might be missing stuff..........basically the shop where i work was getting its roller shutters serviced last week and the man discovered a large ''papermache'' lump made of letters on close examination the postmarks spanned 2007 - present. amongst the them may be some cards.

i have told the postie about it , so hopefully he will put them through the letterbox in future.

Most people will let you collect it without the card if you can prove who you are and your address, you might get the odd jobsworth that insists you have the card but in that case just ask to see a manager.

probably the fact that the service that we are supposed to provide has been obliterated by the management.

well where is the letter box? is it accessible when the shutters are down?

yes , there is a letterbox shaped slot in the shutter over the front door.

i got a few letters today but no package , i don't hold much hope now for it arriving

on a lighter note.........a year ago i was getting a package from amazon.com delivered by FEDEX. it was my first time using such a fancy service and enjoyed watching its tracking progress from the USA across the ocean.......everything went swimmingly until it hit ''old blighty''

it got through heathrow and glasgow airport pretty fast and then went out for delivery.

this was wonderful so far......usa to uk in 2 days !

i waited in all day , nothing after the tracking data came up that i was not at home , i phoned FEDEX , the driver could not find my home........great western road , glasgow........it is a 4 lane dual carriageway !

to think during the 1914-18 war the troops got there mail while underfire in the trenches and here we still with problems............

It depends on how they sent them. Not all our services are insured. Although if they've used one of the cheper products, then it's their own fault, for posting them on the cheap.

It depends on how they sent them. Not all our services are insured. Although if they've used one of the cheper products, then it's their own fault, for posting them on the cheap.

basic 1st class post would be covered for 100X a 1st class stamp
so £41 just now(with a proof of posting)

You may or may not be able to collect without a red card being left (P739) but I'm sure you could ask for any packages for your address to be re-delivered on a day appropriate to you.
Technically a postman should ask for the red card when he re-delivers the item but if you explain the situation I'm sure they can come up with a solution.
