Delivery times from abroad
Hi,
I would be most grateful for some advice. I sent a package from Singapore to the UK on the 28th of August via registered mail and it was received in Langley on the 3rd of Sept. However, it still has not been delivered. How long does it usually take for such items to be delivered. 10 days seems a pretty long wait?
Thanks,
Eugene

Re: Delivery times from abroad
10 days is a bit long - it may be that Customs and Excise have pulled it to inspect it if so this will delay it especially if their is duty to pay.EugeneT wrote:Hi,

However, if it has got to the Delivery Office it may be waiting for the receiver to collect it.

Re: Delivery times from abroad
Thanks, why would it be at the delivery office after clearing customs? Won't it be delivered to the recipient?

The reciever may have not been in and has been left a card to either collect it or have it delivered. Thanks, why would it be at the delivery office after clearing customs? Won't it be delivered to the recipient?
Another thing 'some' posties ignore the fact that it needs to be signed for because it's foreign and may have just delivered it without a signature.
Have you contacted who you sent it to to confirm whether it has been delivered or are you just looking at the tracking info?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Not if there are customs fees to be paid, they will have to go and collect it, and pay the fees.

Re: Delivery times from abroad
Didn't realise Langley was HMRC.
What would happen and i think we need a MC guy to confirm is that it would then go from there to a MC where it would be scanned again and a 'sig required' sticker put on and then sent to the delivery office.
Sticking point is does the MC scan it? Also would it go with the specials or slip through to normal mail as they do sometimes.
Have pointed this to our MC colleagues for help.

Re: Delivery times from abroad
If it's with hmrc it is with customs, so once they decide if its chargeable or not it will continue from there, and depending on size and weight it could be with parcel force, and could have been given a new tracking number, but the originating carrier should display that on their tracking info, had that once with a registered from the states arrived in uk and was given a uk tracking number, but could track it to delivery on either number. Got stuck in customs for three weeks.

Re: Delivery times from abroad
AFAIK registered items from abroad are not scanned and tracked through the UK postal system.
They get a red 'To be Signed For' sticker attached, and are sorted with the standard mail.
I don't know how they would be dealt with at the Delivery Office, which is where it should have reached by now.
If it was a packet it could well still be at the Delivery Office, awaiting delivery, as many DOs seem to have a backlog.

Thanks, so if it is in Langley, it should have cleared customs?

I would think so, unless there is a tax charge to be collected on it.EugeneT wrote:Thanks, so if it is in Langley, it should have cleared customs?

Re: Delivery times from abroad
Just remembered - the machines at HWDC broke down and were out of action on 1/2 September,
and mail was diverted to other Mail centres. There would also have been a backlog at HWDC, which
might account for the delay.
