Service Update for customers in the North of England on Tuesday 7 September - last updated 08:30
General synopsis
Congestion at Newcastle Airport, meant several containers were unable to travel on a flight last night and were transferred instead to the road distribution network. As a consequence, there may be some effect on some items posted in Northern England yesterday for delivery in parts of South and West London, as well as the Ipswich (IP postcodes) and CM & CO postcode areas.
Deliveries of mail
Due to a structural problem at our Sheffield City Delivery Office some inward mail processing and a number of deliveries are likely to be disrupted today.
The precise situation by postcode for today is;
S1, 3, 4 No delivery except for Timed Delivery and Special Delivery items.
S2 and 14 Normal deliveries.
S5, - 13, 17 and 35 will also have limited deliveries since this mail is sorted at Sheffield City DO before delivery.
Collections of mail will not be affected.
Although the enquiry office at Sheffield City remains open, we need to advise you that a quantity of mail remains unsorted and may not be available for collection.
We will provide updates on this page as new information is received.
Posting & collection of mail
We expect to make normal collections from all Post Office® branches, business customers and post boxes in the region today.
Update on international mail services

Redelivery of mail & picking up items from local enquiry offices
Customers can organise a redelivery of any item we have been unable to deliver and for which we have left a ‘sorry you were out’ card. The easiest way to organise a redelivery is via our website at: http://www.royalmail.com/redelivery" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Customers can also collect these items from their local delivery office, details of which can be found on the ‘sorry you were out’ card we leave when we attempt to deliver your item. Please bring the card and appropriate ID with you when you come to collect items.
