Hi,
I live in a small number of 3 flats. Post is normally delivered through a door at the front of the property or left on a fire extinguisher in the hallway. Only once has mail been delivered directly to our door but this included a recorded item. This has been great until recently some new not so good neighbours moved in. They seem to be active 24/7 with random people coming and going all the time (the special brew, cannabis, slamming doors, and drum and bass all night long types), hence now the front door is always left unlocked by them. Even worse because they slam the door without actually shutting it, sometimes it is left wide open where any passers by can see the mail left in the hallway.
Some items of post have not arrived, prompting me to be concerned. I'd rather be safe in the knowledge that any post actually reached my doormat and not an insecure communal area. I am sure this would be beneficial for RM too as less missing items of post means less claims against them, although I am sure the posties are probably set targets to meet so find it quicker to stick it all in one box.
What would be the best way of getting the post delivered to the individual letterboxes? A note stickered on the main letterbox is one option, but sadly this may be removed or viewed negatively by the dodgy neighbours (even though it would clearly benefit them also).
I guess the other option would be to use the redirection service to direct mail to a friend's more secure letterbox?

You can always ring your local Delivery Office and explain. The problem is if you've got a letterbox on the main door some of the posties might think thats the only delivery point, not realising you've separate letter boxes. Alternatively you could always set up a Mail Collect and go and collect your post from the local Delivery Office, that is a free service where as a Redirection will cost you.

Excellent, I was sure I remembered hearing about such a service but couldn't find it for looking on RM's site. Was just thinking this could be used as redirection on the cheap should we move, but it seems this is against T&C's.Stormproof wrote:Alternatively you could always set up a Mail Collect and go and collect your post from the local Delivery Office, that is a free service where as a Redirection will cost you.

You can't use it as a redirection if you move because, if you're no longer at that address, we can't hold the mail for you and have to start delivery again.anewman wrote:Excellent, I was sure I remembered hearing about such a service but couldn't find it for looking on RM's site. I'd suggest mail collect. I think it only has to collected at least once a week so you don't have to go in every day to check (not everyone is so popular to get stuff every day!).
You used to be able to set up Mail Collect at the Delivery Office but I believe that's another service you now have to go thru Customer Services for
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Or if you leave main door of building open that would force the postie to come in and deliver to all 3 letterboxes. Are your flats each given a separate address e.g. A, B and C or do you all have the same address? Technically if the latter then the rule 'One address = one delivery point' applies.

There's a separate address and these different addresses are normally recognised by websites that ask for postcode and house number. The door is constantly left unlocked so the postie could easily come in and deliver to individual letter boxes.Izzy wrote:Or if you leave main door of building open that would force the postie to come in and deliver to all 3 letterboxes. "Mail Collect is a free service that lets you collect mail from your local Delivery Office at a time that suits your needs. We hold your mail securely at our Delivery Office and it can only be collected by authorised people with ID.
Collect mail from your local Delivery Office
8.30am until closing time Monday-Saturday
Minimum contract period of four weeks
Mail securely held
Free service. "
- that's from the Royal Mail website, and I hadn't realised it was free.
There's about 450 households I'll be suggesting that to tomorrow.

Re: Any way to get postie to deliver to individual flats?
Yeah i'd just ring up and ask a manager and explain you think mail is going missing would it be possible for the postie to go right in, if you see your postie ask him yourself he might be fine with it. The only problem is if you have a letterbox on the outside door we are told to post at 1st point of delivery but exceptions can be made for customers at request. Get your postie a key cut for the outside door and you will probably find he will do it no questions asked.

Send yourself a special delivery and answer the door wearing high heels, fishnets and channel. Problem solved
