Hi gang!
I know this is a long shot but really hope someone can help. Basically, my mum sent me a package on Monday 7th June from Manchester by next day delivery, so theoretically, it should have arrived with me in London by Tuesday 8th? but alas, there is no sign, and its now Friday 11th. And here's the sucker, she lost the track and trace number! noooooooooo! It seems without this, I am completely helpless. Went to my delivery office and its not there, she even took my name and address and said there's nothing on the system. Rang the Manchester post office, and they said they cant do anything with no track and trace. emailed royal mail (waiting for response), and phoned their customer services (also waiting for response), and just spoke to my postman who said he definitely didnt see a package for delivery to mine on the 8th. Funny thing is, my sis sent me a package yesterday by next day recorded, and it reached me by this morning.
Really dont know what to do and Im beside myself! Dont think the lady in the delivery office enjoyed having a crying girl sat there! oops. Any suggestions guys, or is it lost in the postal galay? Would really appreciate any advice,
Thanks so much!

Re: Is my package gone forever?
It should turn up if its a tracked item - I am guessing its a special from what you said.
However, there is one long shot - if your Mum (the sender) can remember what time she sent it from the Post Office and goes back there they might be able to give her the Track and Trace Number - its a long shot though especially if its a busy crown or city centre PO. In these cases a small PO attached to a shop has a better chance of identifying the correct number.
Good Luck,.

Re: Is my package gone forever?
I'm guessing this is not a special, how much did it cost to send?
A lot of people get confused with 1st class recorded.
It is near on impossible (although we know it does happen sometimes) to lose a special.

Re: Is my package gone forever?
still nothing unfortunately :( sadface. Emailed Royal Mail after asking my postman if he had delivered anything. They said:
Dear Bean,
The regular postman would not deliver this type of item it would bedelivered by one of our van drivers as the item is still not showing atyour local Delivery Office please email the following information quoting reference XXXXX-XXXX. The sender's full name and address. A full description of the contents. A description of the packaging This will allow us to send a search request form to our National ReturnsCentre as the item might have been sent there if the address on the packageis incorrect. Thank you again for your assistance, and apologies for any inconveniencethat may have been caused.
Sent the information they asked for, to which they replied:
Dear Bean,
Unfortunately we cannot track 1st or 2nd Class post or Standard Parcels atany stage of their journey; therefore we cannot search for your item. Thisalso applies to Recorded items, as they are only tracked once they havebeen delivered and signed for. If your item was sent using our SpecialDelivery service we would require the tracking reference for the item inorder to perform a search for your item. If your item has not beendelivered after 15 working days after the due date we will class them asbeing lost and you may be able to claim compensation. Unfortunately, we are not able to process claims for lost items of mail byemail due to the specialised investigation required. Please contact the senders and ask them to submit a P58 Inland Lost,Damaged or Delayed form the missing item. These are available from any PostOffice or alternatively you can download this using the following link; etc etc
hmm bit annoying seeing as I already mentioned the sender had lost the track and trace number. Anyhooo I emailed them back to explain some of the original information again, to which they said:
Dear Bean,
Thank you for your additional email in connection with an item that wassent to you under your old address and sorry to hear of your predicament. At this stage l can suggest that if the item in question does not have areturn address we would also check to establish if there is a returnaddress inside the package, this will be done at our returnsletter branch under secure conditions.
Pretty frustrated now, as this email contains some blatant incorrect information; info that was already explained! It wasnt sent to an "old" address, this is my first address in London - I already explained that what might have happened is a "b" in my address line, might have been omitted by the sender. Also, I explained AND sent them the senders return address, to which I explained was on the back of the package. owwwwww sigh
Thanks for all your help guys, and Im really sorry for the length of this post. Think Ill have to give up the chase now though. There's nothing else I can do. Let's just hope it gets sent back to my mum! I'll keep you all updated :)

Re: Is my package gone forever?
What does the "b" in your address, that may have been omitted, refer to? Is the building multi-occupancy? Is it a basement?
Is it possible that the item was delivered to another flat? Someone else may have signed for it and kept it.
Or the 739 card (while you were out card) may be lying in someone else's flat.In which case the packet may be sitting in the caller's office awaiting collection. And it wouldn't be Returned to Sender before the 3 week period was up.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Is my package gone forever?
the "b" is after my flat number, eg. flat 36, flat 36a and 36b. Asked (then begged a little bit) the neighbours to let me know, but there doesnt seem to be any sign of packages, sorry you were out cards etc etc. Thanks for all your help guys, but definitely giving up on this one now :( xx
