What other details do you need?
It's been posted, and it's starting on it's journey to you. Wait until tomorrow at 1pm and if it hasn't arrived then that's the time to start asking questions.

Re: Help with delivery on special next day delivery
Special Delivery is a reliable service so it's a near certainty that the item will be delivered tomorrow, and it's only after it''s been signed for, or advised if nobody's in to accept it, that Royal Mail's computer is updated
- it doesn't give a GPS type commentry on its progress across the country.

I personally wouldn't use recorded delivery for anything.strobez1977 wrote:Well at times before its told me it will be with me before 1pm and others it doesnt so thats what im meaning about info, also i have had some terrible service with the royal mail regrading recorded delivery items not getting signed at the other end yet still delivered

It is not a tracked service and the proof of delivery...isn't as the recipient is entitled to the item whether they sign it as Mickey Mouse, draw a picture in the space, mark an X or in fact refuse to sign for it at all.

Re: Help with delivery on special next day delivery
why do you feel they are entitled to it if they dont sign?fishtank wrote:I personally wouldn't use recorded delivery for anything.strobez1977 wrote:Well at times before its told me it will be with me before 1pm and others it doesnt so thats what im meaning about info, also i have had some terrible service with the royal mail regrading recorded delivery items not getting signed at the other end yet still delivered

if they refuse to sign or give in illegible or obviously joke signature then you can refuse the delivery
even then, for many purposes all it requires is that the RM site updates as delivered
eBay and paypal are a good example
this is why i dont understand posties still not following procedure on signed for items

That recorded item you have in your hand does not belong to you it belongs to the recipient and unfortunately you have no power to withold it from them whether they have signed for it or not.
If they refuse to sign for it you must still give it to them and record on your card that they refused to sign for it.
Although the RM website is full of promises if you call up customer services they will tell you that a signature is requested not required...trust me i've been there.

"If they refuse to sign for it you must still give it to them and record on your card that they refused to sign for it." - surely not.
If they refuse to sign for it I write 'Refused' on the card and on the envelope then the same on a red sticker on the envelope on returning to the office - isn't that the obvious and correct thing to do ?

No... as they have not refused the item only refused to sign for it.Lounge Lizard wrote:"If they refuse to sign for it you must still give it to them and record on your card that they refused to sign for it." - surely not.If they refuse to sign for it I write 'Refused' on the card and on the envelope then the same on a red sticker on the envelope on returning to the office - isn't that the obvious and correct thing to do ?
It still belongs to them and if they want it you cannot refuse to give it to them.

It is thankfully rare and if it happens to you the best thing to do is phone your D.O. immediately and report the incident to cover your back.Lounge Lizard wrote:I never knew that.fishtank wrote:No... as they have not refused the item only refused to sign for it.Lounge Lizard wrote:"If they refuse to sign for it you must still give it to them and record on your card that they refused to sign for it." - surely not.If they refuse to sign for it I write 'Refused' on the card and on the envelope then the same on a red sticker on the envelope on returning to the office - isn't that the obvious and correct thing to do ?
It still belongs to them and if they want it you cannot refuse to give it to them.So you give them the letter and then when thay say they never received it it's their word against yours ?
- that doesn't sound right to me.
When you think about it rationally if the recipient has purchased an item then they are the legal owner not us,we are just the delivery boys.
I think, but i am not sure that Citations are the only exception to this rule.
Recorded delivery has become a millstone around Royal Mails neck although they do make a lot of cash from it.
Unfortunately it was included along with SD as part of the USO so they are stuck with it for the time being although i can see it being replaced eventually with the Tracked service.

Re: Help with delivery on special next day delivery
Have been told by manager, and on my induction though that was 15 years ago, no signature no letter.Had a customer who refused to sign because they was told by the sender, to check contents before signing, i wouldn't let them have it, they wouldn't sign before opening it so it went back to the office, they complained, dom checked with his boss, the procedure i followed was correct, they collected it from office opened it in office said the company had sent wrong order and tried to give it back, that didn't work they had to send it back through post office.

I don't remember what was said on this on my induction, but this is how I would have acted and shall continue to do so.janitor wrote:Have been told by manager, and on my induction though that was 15 years ago, no signature no letter.Had a customer who refused to sign because they was told by the sender, to check contents before signing, i wouldn't let them have it, they wouldn't sign before opening it so it went back to the office, they complained, dom checked with his boss, the procedure i followed was correct, they collected it from office opened it in office said the company had sent wrong order and tried to give it back, that didn't work they had to send it back through post office.

Re: Help with delivery on special next day delivery
I was always told, obtain signature before the item is handed over. If they refuse to sign it or give a joke signature, I was told to leave them a P739 and take the item back to the D.O.
No signature, no item. It doesn't belong to them until they've signed for it. The sender paid for the service and it's in our safe keeping until a signature is obtained as per the service the sender has paid for.
