ok. first off i can tell you that a postie was arrested a couple of months ago for stealing mail in my area. today 25/11/2009 i got a letter from royal mail investigations with 2 halves of mail, 1 half from my energy supplier and the other from hospital.
my question is this: i have been waiting for an appointment for 10 month for surgery and have been on incapacity benefit whilst waiting, my half of letter from the hospital was that appointment but it was for september, so i have missed it and i could be waiting another 10 month for another, which equals to more time off work.
could anybody tell me where i stand legally.
thanks rob
p.s. i am not having a go at posties in general as i know most of them do a good job.

I would obviously ring up with this information and see if you can get a new date in the not to distant future. You could also try and contact royal mail regarding compensation because of this but you'll probably not get very far sadly.
Worth a shot though.
Oh and thanks for not thinking we are all thieves. The majority of us are as disgusted in events like this as you are.

it states on the letter that the sender can claim compensation which seems a bit stupid in this case as it is me who is suffering and will continue to suffer even further.
i will get in touch with RM and see what they can do.
thanks rob

Strangely in this instance I would suggest going to a see a No Wins No Fees lawyer and see what they could do. If the postie has been found guilty in a court of law you may also be entitled to some compensation from the "Criminal Injuries Compensation scheme".
Good luck.

i have phoned customer service and they are going to send some sort of pack out to me, they want me to put the letters (evidence) in it and return it.
might take your advice and see a solicitor first while i have the the evidence in my hand(might get lost in the post. lol).
oh and the postie in question is in my local newspaper today.

Re: theiving postie
This bloke had been working for Royal Mail for sixteen months, during which at some point he had another job, and where he was cautioned for stealing from this other employer. It was revealed during the hearing that Tosney was cautioned by police in November 2008 for stealing £95 from his employer, Bobby’s fish and chip shop in Blyth, where he worked as a delivery driver at the same time as working for Royal Mail.
Erm, I'm just wondering if the police had any idea this person worked for the Royal Mail. I mean, it would have been a bit daft if they had known and not passed on any info. Or, am I being a bit too harsh?
We posties do things differently, but we still get shot at!

I would photocopy the letters first, then send the originals by Special Delivery to customer services.
As for compensation, i would enquire if the surgery could be done quicker privately rather than NHS and see if Royal Mail would cover the costs for that. I doubt it, but you don't know until you ask.

Royal Mail will probably send you six stamps at most. :( They do not understand the principle of consequential loss
