Dear all, I thought it was time that there was a thread in which people may show support rather than criticism for the postal workers strike. I myself have never worked as a postman but I have worked as a care assistant which is another area in which staff are often given minimal pay for a job in which they are overworked, left short staffed, abused and given very little credit for the work they do that is beyond the scope of their job role, while expected to give the absolute highest quality of service.
In the care industry, because of the awful work conditions and the management's "as there long as the work is done we dont really care" and "bums in beds" attitude, there are very little carers left who genuinely care about the clients and the work they are doing. Instead there is a mass recruitment of people who really don't care and only see the job as "a job". This has major consequences for the clients who should be receiving the best level of service.
My point being that I have seen what has happened in the care industry and so I can totally understand the postal workers having to strike in order to put their point across and get the people at the top to listen and hopefully change things for the better. This is something that can never be acheived in the care industry as peoples lives are literally on the line, so I say good on all you posties and I wish you all success! :Applause

Completely agree.

I used to go out with a girl who was a care assistant- she didn't have your attitude to the job (part of the reason I USED to go out with her!) but I did see a lot of what you mentioned.

As I have said before, it's great to see there are still a lot of posties with some passion for their job and their customers, and ultimately I think the industrial action shows they want things to IMPROVE for us (as well as themselves as employees). So yes, my post will be late, but you know what? I'd rather have it a few days late now than face huge postage price increases and inefficient service from some of these courier companies in the future.

Futhermore, with privatising RM i really think polititans should listen to us and at least allow us to vote on it. Never once have they let us decide on the important matters.
