Wrong address and paid for redirection

Post by Hdhx »

Hi, so I am expecting something in the post that was sent to my old address. I remember that when I inputted the old address, I got the street name and number right, the first half of the post code right and the second half of the postcode wrong. So that formed a non existent postcode. I read on some threads here that it should still find its way to the right place given that the street name/number and first half of the post code is correct.
As mentioned though, this is an old address, so I have a Royal Mail redirection set up for it to my new address.
Do you think that the redirection for that post would still work given that it is be addressed to the wrong old address (second half of the postcode being wrong)?

Should be alright. But if the second half of the postcode sends it to a different DO nearby who realize it's not within their office and who hopefully will have enough local area knowledge to direct it towards the correct delivery office, it might take a few extra days to get to the delivery office for your old address and subsequent redirection. Did the item have the correct town/village on it?

With the second half of the postcode being wrong, it forms a post code that doesn’t exist, so I don’t think it would direct it to a DO away from the old address (unless I’m misunderstanding your point).
Just for extra context, the old address is in one side of London, and the new address in another side. Not sure if that changes anything.
Secondly I don’t think I inputted the town/village info for the old address, but the first half of the postcode is the correct town for the old address.
Let me know if anything didn’t make sense or if there’s anything further you require to give a more accurate approximation to how it could be handled.

Aah ok. Not sure what happens when an item has a non-existent postcode applied to it and the item is scanned at a parcel sorting centre. I assume it might get rejected and a human has to intervene to read the address and take some appropriate forwarding action.

Does your item have a tracking number?
