It goes to Belfast where they open it and then take it and sell it on in one of their auctions.fishtank wrote:Now there's a good question...what happens to a special delivery if it can't be R.T.S'd?
I assume after a P739 the local D.O. would hold it for 7 day's then........?

Re: Missing special Delivery
So if he knows the return address and consequently knows the delivery office where it will be held for 21(?) days, he can contact them and explain the mix up and they might send it back.
Only 16 houses in the street, the SD is addressed to a foreign sounding name yet none of the neighbours could figure out who it was for?

Re: Missing special Delivery
Right then!
Now disturbed all the neighbours and have found out where it went.
It was delivered to to my nextdoor neighbour, who's young child signed for it.
Then my neighbour took it to his next door neighbour as it had his house number on it
When they said it was not for them he continued up the street without anyone claiming it.
Yesterday it was returned to the Post Office and will probably be returned to Leicester.
Problem is the address in Leicester is now empty as the occupants are in Australia
If the sender has set up a redirection with Royal Mail then it will be redirected to his new address in Australia, if not, then item will end up at the Return Letter Branch (RLB). You cannot contact them direct, only through Customer Services, but this can only be done by the sender.
Royal Mail have correctly delivered the item to the address on it. Royal Mail delivers to the address, not the addressee, they cannot be blamed for the item not reaching you if the sender incorrectly addressed the item.

A SD won't be redirected to Australia.

If they've payed for an international redirection, it will be redirected, it'll just be treated as ordinary mail.A SD won't be redirected to Australia

Re: Missing special Delivery
The plot thickens.
At least I now know what number it was addressed to.
The telephone calls will resume in the morning, and the second question will be....
If I live at 92 and it was addressed to 96 but delivered to 94 why was it delivered to 94 and where the hell will I find it now???

Very few people who emigrate have their mail follow them...i think it's quite expensive.
Usually in my experience they have it redirected to a relative over here who then sends on anything important.

Re: Missing special Delivery
Do you have the tracking code for the item?
Tracking it should be easy with that, as it should be scanned by each new person that handles it.
You are right though, if it was addressed to 96 it shouldn't have been delivered to 94 and it shouldn't be signed for by a minor.

Why do that at 9.45 when some of us have to get up 30 minutes ago to go to work?

Re: Missing special Delivery
I'd get in touch with customer services and say that you are trying to reclaim a special delivery which has been returned to a possibly empty address.
I don't think they can do much if it is returned, however if it cannot be returned then it should end up in Belfast where RM should do everything realistically in their power to get it to it's owner.
And to side track slightly, we can deliver a package to anyone at that address which that feel is capable of understanding what they are signing for, even if they are a minor. And to add to that, any signature is acceptable including a cross - it is the intent implied by signing and not the quality of signature that counts.

Re: Missing special Delivery
Sounds like the Postie just decided to have next door to take the SD so he doesn't have to go back to the Delivery Office with it.
